> N95 vs P990 (or more fittingly, P1000)

Anybody got anything official related to this phone? A link, a release date?
Why are people I thought knew better comparing it to the P990i when the two devices are like chalk and cheese?
Without links, an official statement, or any decent information, this thread is totally pointless. It just gives ppl the opportunity to say stuff like:
"P990i IS IN TRUBLE NOW, I WANT N95 4 SURE." Pathetic.

550 euros seems unbelievably cheap for a phone of this magnitude!!
If it is released at this price then I could definitely be interested!!

The people compare the 2 because they are top/flagship models for their companies! While there are a few things a N95 could do which the P990i can't, I can't think of any - the other way around. Touch screen is a blessing in disguise. Some like it some don't. ( ex. Try taking down a registration number while in a hispeed vehicle chase !) The s60 is a winner. I've said that since I first got the 7650 (exactly 4years ago). I guess by now I have been proven right. People are voting with their wallets and not words

and Nokia know that. Is a pity it does not have WIMAX and hidef recording. Times are getting exciting now. Lets sit back and enjoy

So what??? With P990 you can:
1 - use the normal phone keyboard
2 - use the qwerty
3 - use the touchscreen
...and choose the input method best suited to every situation

I've been waiting for the P990 for so long I now can't be bothered to buy one!
I don't want to be tied into a 12 or even 18 month contract (and I don't buy sim-free) - and see an old phone look even more outdated at the end of the contract.
Whatever SE's response is to the N95 (and I'm not comparing an unavailable phone, the N95, with a phone that is - barely - available, the P990); they are going to need to announce it soon. At least Nokia manage to get their phones out not too long after thay are announced. The N95 could be available as early as the beginning of January.
To say the N95 is not comparable to the Pxxx series is naive. Nokia and SE are directly competing with each other with the N series and the P series (and to some extent SE's W series).
The N95 could do with a touch-screen, but otherwise it's a fantastic device, and the only one I'm interested in at the moment. SE need to do something radical and they need to do it fast. I'll be watching the smart phone conference at the beginning of October with interest...
Sorry for the rant, thanks for listening!

I really dont like nokia at all, but this phone does have good specs, but i will say it again, i dont like the way nokia phones look.......
And i seem to notice a few people here and there saying se dont have the money etc...but people please dont start saying se cant compete because they dont have the money/resources like nokia.... they are backed by one of, if not the biggest, technology co (Sony) in the world, so there is no reason why they cant compete. (Ericsson is not so small either)
Come on SE, give us a WOW phone soon

trying to claim their smartphone is a computer...mobile computer?
Quite true though given the ability a smart phone can do now.
That's mainly true. You built a generic super-duper hardware. The rest is software. This is why nokia can churn out smartphones after smartphones like there is no tomorrow.
Quote:Nokia is always keeping themselve at smartphone tht didn't use UIQ (only once thru the benq made smartphone) while SE have been producing smartphone tht is only based on UiQ
7710 is a touchscreen phone. I think Nokia feels the touchscreen segment is limited to high end business. That is why it is not in their priority yet to wrestle this from WM.
Quote:I always feel like they have an understanding not to fight with each other when it come to smartphone.
Well ...I just wonder how long this can last....especially M600 and W950 is really act like a S60 phone now.
I dont think SE UIQ pose any threat at all to Nokia's. Even SE can get UIQ3 stable enough, it will compete more with WM than S60.

Nokia has basically sealed up mid to high end smartphone segment. There is no way SE can compete. This year Nokia will sell something like 40million smartphones. SE would be lucky if it can sell 1 million.
