that wasnt me who said that i have a 25% less speed but i do think that my internet should be faster than it is. when i download something the fastest it will go is around 9-10kbps and on limewire is even slower and this is meant to be on a 1.1 mb connection.
The phone socket i plug my ethernet cable into also accomodates a sky+ box and wireless phone, not sure whether this will make a difference?
thanks
EDIT: the cable im referrring to is the one from my modem to the phone socket.

that does seem slow. you got a micro filter on that sokcet and on the oher sockets in the house.
try up plugging the sky+ and the phone from the phone line and run a speed test before you unplug and after
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp
be curious to see the results, whos your isp ? any ideas how far from the exchange you are ? is it slower at certian times of the day?

whos your current isp, try that speed test and let us know the results.
also try this bt link put your phone number in and it ll tell you what the max you can get out of your line is. its not 100% accurate but it s results may give an idication of how far from the exchange you are

Yeah, this sounds like wiring or ISP to me too.
Have you tried unplugging all other phones / fax's etc. to see if there's an improvement?
