well, just got my scandisk 4gb

works fine, running TomTom, mp3's, some musicvideos, filling up almost 2gb.

no problems so far

but havent recorded any videos, and doesnt really plan to, which seems to be an issue with 4gb among many out there??

of course I have the ordinary hangups and restart but thats due to the RAM-shortage which really is my greates problem with this thing which I really start to like

Slds from Spain

PS; obviously the battery is a bottleneck, waiting for my BST-34, should take another 10 days or so....

The lag that sometimes occurs when using large videofiles is not only related to the memory card.
I use Sandisk Ultra II (4gb), and experience perhaps a four second lag when opening a 450mb, 77min long file. I have gotten longer lags than that also, but then with both smaller and shorter file, or longer and larger. It does not seem to me that the size has anything to do with the lag that occurs, more the encoding of the file, and the settings/codec used in the process. I have used Super(c) encoding software for converting the files I use, and it works like a charm - when it does, unfortunately that is far from all the time.

meant to post here but posted on another thread instead. regardless, i've done a little research on 4gb cards:

SanDisk SDMSPD-4096-A10M 4 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo
Data Transfer Rate: 15 Mbps

SanDisk 4 GB Ultra II Memory Stick PRO Duo Mobile (SDMSPDU-4096-A10M
9 MBps write speed; 10 MBps read speed

SanDisk 4 GB Ultra II Memory Stick PRO Duo (SDMSPDH-4096-901
10 MB per second read speed, 9 MB per second write speed

SanDisk Extreme® III Memory Stick PRO Duo™
Min 18MB/second** sequential read and write

SanDisk Gaming RapidGX Memory Stick PRO Duo™
15MB/sec read and write

SanDisk 4 GB Gaming MemoryStick Pro Duo Memory Card (SDMSG-4096-A10, Retail Package)
unreleased info even on sandisk.com

Sony Pro Duo 4GB High Speed
Minimum writing speed: 15Mbps

Sony 4 GB MemoryStick PRO DUO ( MSXM4GS )
Minimum write speeds of 15Mbps

I have the first sandisk on the list and it lags. is there an application that'll test xfer spd for cards to pc? furthermore, when i had the p800 the stock media player was lackluster. however when i obtained 3rd party media players it totally rocked and played multiple formats. are we all just waiting for this type of release? something that's less of a memory hog and will play and cache things better?

the obvious experiment is to try to capture pix and vids to your 4gb card directly, then try to play 250MB or even 1gb mp4 files from your card. what are your experiences?

I've got the SanDisk 4gb Ultra II pro duo (SDMSPDU-4096-E10M) reported to 10mb/s read, 9mb/s write on the packet.

It lags when taking vids directly to the card. Reading mp4 encoded vids off the card, a full length movie around 400mb would hang the phone. I split the movie into 100mb chunks and it now takes 1 minute per file to load.

Obviously this isn't great, but once the video has started it doesnt lag or lose sync. I suspect the quality of the encode and the software encoding it has agreat deal to do with the loading speed. Also a dedicated uiq3 divx/xvid player would rock much more, please smartmovie come on!

Actually, why would anyone want to load the complete file before starting it? It's enough to analyze the beginning of the file and start streaming?

i dont think it gives you a choice to start the file while loading.

@cheekynige:

I use a full-length file 450mb, 77 mins, right off the card (Ultra2-4gb). It loads for about 5 seconds, then views without losing sync throughout the entire film, even when jumping to another time in the file.

The phone does not necessarily crash or hang at these situations as you state, I guess it all comes down to the encoding.
