Phone progression.
Nokia 8260
LG 510
SE T68
SE P800
SE P910
SE P990

I really needed a touch screen because I do a lot of small drawings in the note area.
Camera, needed 2mp atleast.
Jog dial... have loved it since the Clie'.
Calander updating for work.
Email,
WIFI! remote desktop is going to be really nice for me.
Size... sure it isn't small, but it isn't big either... not like the HTC... yikes!
etc etc...

Using my P990 (2months now) mainly for email, calender, contacts, phone, had Blackberry for a year before that, now having the possibility to try Samsung SGH-i320 - so far a lot better, not buggy at all and extremely slim compared to the relatively bulky P990.

Tried the Blackberry software on my P990 - doesnt work well (didnt sync contacts or if it was calender - via BB), now using active sync, its a lot better but not up to Blackberry functionality on a BB-machine.

P990 could be great but:

- battery life to short (same with the Samsung but they provide a 2nd battery that can be charged sepratetely - very smart
- RAM memory never enough, and its very slow in between menues
- with flipoff its not very good as a phone

Using TomTom navigation on my P990, works good but always short of memory.

Swissmanager (freeware) is a must on P990, enables me to close down apps and free memory. I'm actually doesnt have the shut-down problems as everyone else seems to have reading esato.

All-in-all, if next firmware (whenever that's coming...) doesnt solve the memory issue my P990 will go down the bin for me (will give it to my kids, they alwasy get the old stuff).

I will describe my usage comparing it a bit with P910 which I owned before P990.
I liked to browse the internet on 910 but it was only in portrait mode with gprs connection. Now I browse heavily via wifi, mode - landscape plus fully supported download which I like so much. Right now I am writing this with 46mb media downloading in background.
I used 910 for video monitoring of my house, but it was not much functional because gprs and gsm could not function together and I need phone functionality all the time. With 990 it's possible to use wifi/gprs and gsm at the same time which I badly needed.
I liked to watch movies. In 990, because of its fantastic screen it's a new amazing experience.
I missed a good camera and I finally got it.
I liked to listen music, now there is stereo bluetooth and far better music player.
I used card reader because otherwise it was so slow to transfer anything to PC. Now there is USB memory storage-loving it.
Querty keyboard, didn't even know how good it is.
I need effice files editing on regular basis. WIth 910 only portrait mode-very hard and forget about larger files. With 990 it's a pleasure and I am nicely taking that advantage.
RSS - no need to buy some weather forecasting app, rss do it easy for me and a lot of other things.
Off course I regularly use contact, calendar, task, notes, email with attachments (in combination with wifi is fantastic), alarm etc.
All in all very satisfied user. Now if expected new fw brings more RAM and reduction of memory leak, ........

Go out & buy a P990i

After 3 plus years of P series phones i am completely satisfied that the P990i is the best all round device on the market.
My Orange P990i is NOT in any way buggy never has been, wifi i fantastic, camera is fantastic, size is NOT an issue, Tomtom works great on it, call handling is superb, its an awsome piece of kit, all i will say is because of the complex nature of this phone even compaired to older P series models, if you buy this phone & never used a P series phone before i think you will not be easily using it to its max within a day or even a week, it will take a while, BUT IT IS WELL WORTH THE EffORT

Like anything in life thats really rewarding, you need to put a bit of effort in first before you reap the benifits.

Hi Indiandawg,

For the problem with RAM I suggest to you to get SwissManager (free or Pro).
This program is fantastic! My p990 stays with one charge at least 2,5 days with many talking and with use of Bluetooth handsfree (Jabra). A very nice program - like swiss knife. ))

yeah i got swiss manager pro dude !! it works charm..but this is not what i expect from SE and why shud we have such an application one day..!! SE should really consider about RAM
