Yeah, I'd have to agree about the UI design, its terrible! Also, to add some confusion back lol, mine is most probably going back. Put it this way, if your looking for a phone with wifi, a big screen and a keyboard than this is it. If your looking for a multi app powerful smartphone this aint it.

Had my P990 for 2 months now, its a work tool for me, camera, music-player is secondary to push-mail and other functions

- battery capacity is no good, if used, max 3-4h then it must be recharged
- never managed to open TomTom without closing active sync
- very slow going between apps and menues
- in flip-off mode its no good as phone
- key-lock button extremely sensitive, when put in case it switches on
- push mail with active sync is ok but not up to Blackberry functionality
- having difficulties taking good pics with the camera
- video is no good
- as some have pointed out, the keyboard buttons are to small

I cannot recommend it unless there is a magic firmware coming anytime soon. Its just not good enough

I disagree with many of those points, the camera is by far the best in its class for a 2mp camera. Also the qwerty keyboard is just brilliant for txting and writing emails, also for chatting online using agile messenger. Yes its takes a bit of adjustment but like anything you use it often enough it becomes so easy. For me the keyboard is essential and very practical.

btw i don't have fat fingers!

I bought my P990i last Friday, and I've not been able to really use it. Couldn't set up my emails, wifi, couldn't watch tv... But I think I've been sold a returned and bad one, even if it's supposed to be new.
Why I think like that is that the battery was already fully charged when I purchased it, and there was some programmes missing like the Music DJ... etc.
My purchase screwed up my weekend : I spent the whole Saturday driving from one center to another.
I first went to the Sony Ericsson store to get some help and they couldn't, they said that I had to bring my phone back where I bought it and ask for another one.
I went then to my provider center to get the tv and all parameters fixed but they couldn't help neither.
This was just like a bad luck or nightmare I was having.

Other strange things is that I put once my SIM card in after switching off then on the device, and it didn't ask me for my pin code... it just started running like I did not switched it off at all. Also while browsing the Yahoo start page on internet, I was amazed to see two red "Y" from Yahoo on the screen : one "Y" was on its own on the top of the screen while the other correct to its place in the word.
Also, I don't know if this is related to the browser or not but every time I was changing from web page, I had to go to the settings and choose "fit to screen" in order not to have a wide page.
In my P910i, I only set it up once and that's ok. With the P990i, I had to do it all the time and that really pissed me off.
Maybe because I wasn't using "Opera" but I don't use that navigator in my P910i.

Don't know if you guys have had that message from your anti-virus software but each time I opened the SE PC Suite for Smartphones which comes along in the box, and tried to synchronize with my PC, my Norton Anti-Virus keep alerting me from a dangerous attempt from a "troyan horse" the mRouter.exe, trying to retrieve data from my PC.
I've never had that with all the other SE PC Suites.

Ok, after pointing out my negative experience let me share what I like in the P990i so far (for the restricted use of it due to my above problems) :
the camera is just amazing, not to compare with the older P brothers, the crystal screen is great, the shape of the phone looks far better than the P910i, I love the new keyboard which more convenient than from the P910i... and no the keys are not to small for me, and I don't have small fingers (it's all in the feeling)...

To be sincere, I really like this phone but with all the problems I've had, I'll call the technical service again of my provider (they don't work during weekends) and if the can't give me all the correct settings for watching tv and configure my emails, instead of asking for another P990i tomorrow where I bought mine, I'll ask for a K800i and take a dvd player with hard disk with the remaining amount.
I paid 589 euros for the P990i and they don't reimburse the money. The K800i costs 369 euros.

I wish the technicians will tell me "you can take another P990i and we'll help you setting up all the parameters".
That phone is a bomb but I don't wanna waste my time solving problems.
I'm a big fan SE products and have never been disapointed so far. I've had the T610, K700i, and for the moment the P910i and P990i that I don't know if I'm gonna keep it.

I'll keep you posted.

I would also say that camera is brilliant. A week ago I went to a funeral of my friend's father. Somehow I was the only one with a camera (P990) so I had unpleasant duty to take pictures of the whole ceremony. I took 56 pictures. My friend and her family were very satisfied. They and other people who have seen it were in wonder how can a phone produce such good pictures.
I now use to hard copy P990 shots. Nobody notice those are from the phone. Can't tell you how happy I am for that. The trick is to first slightly press the camera button until autofocus does it's job.

Mine is singapore ver. and i really don't suggest u to buy this ver. it's very unstable and have less RAM then other ver. i donlt really know about other ver. cheerrs

I ordered one today, should have it tomorrow. Haven't owned a SE since the long ago days of t68i ! Looking forward to getting the 990 but more than a little worried as well, having read all the reviews now! Still, if I'm lucky and if it works it could be the perfect phone! Will let u know how I get on. Read about a new Samsung phone on engadget this morning

anyone know anything about it? Seems very good.

Honest opinion sought?

Are there any dishonest opinions in here????

Creating a new thread to ask about the P990, just because there are conflicting views in other threads, just isn't going to help. This thread will only reflect the conflicting views on the other threads. Honest or not.

I have a P990, and my views will often conflict with myself. You buy the phone, and take your chances. My expereince of the P990 isn't exactly trouble-free, but I wouldn't swap it for any other smartphone, except maybe the P910. I've tried the XDA, and that locked up three times in the first evening, and it was also a lack-lustre piece of kit. If you want a smart pohone, I wouldn't try to talk you out of buying a P990, but my praise of the phone would be less than ecstatic.

My P990I didn't turn up today
Hopefully tomorrow.
To the OP. If your going to get the phone on a new UK contract then just buy it. You have 7 day's to send it back if you don't like it and cancel the contract.
