I wonder - if the 'customers' are really happy with the P990i, why did the price of a new device tumble like that ? Something is fishy. It looks like SE is having problems selling that crap. No matter who says what.

@Mario2004- Discord pointed out that people rant in a constructive manner. Someone here needs advice on SE replacing the p990 and not useless arguments. Being you that's unheard of in this forum, I mean the product is not your favourite Nokia so you have to bash it everytime. That's really intelligent!

welcome to Esato

your opinion echoes that of many Esato members already but, although even Palm produced a windows mobile device it seems very unlikely that SE will take that route, unfortunately, given its commitment to the symbian platform

I share the same thoughts, Masseur. Look what Sony did to the Palm OS at version 4.x > its because of them and them alone that the Palm OS made it with multitasking like threads in ALL of version 5. Sony left because they didnt like their intellectual creations goto all competitors. I dont think they'll court WM just yet - eventual but not for some time.

My P990 is out (in my mobile phone box), it did not live up to expectations at all - slow, buggy, etc

Now using a Samsung SGH-i320 with Windows mobile, excellent, so much better, logic menues, much easier to use AND it works well as a phone besides being very slim!
[/p]

Why the SGH-i320? Because its free on Vodafone? Oh well still a nice small phone but the upcoming SGH-i600 with WiFi and HSDPA is coming and with scrollwheel ala BlackBerry and decated volume rocker its sweet. I just dont like the digital pad on it. I may end up with the HTC S630 (debuting in 2.5 mths or less).

Windows Mobile? Yuck. I own SE P990i, P910, P800 and QTEK 9100 Windows Mobile.

I don't like the GUI of Windows Mobile. I find it awkward, backwards and annoying.

As for Nokia they haven't produced any nice looking phones for years. I'd rather buy an LG or a Samsung. But I guess everything is possible...

At least you're not considering a Blackberry. I don't get those at all.

Just my two cents.

Dude, if you dont find the upcoming Nokia N75 a good looking device, then I think you're looking for Cindy Crawford in a mobile which is just unattainable. And if you truely find WM Smartphone device backwards, then no wonder why you dont get BlackBerry's.

BlackBerry's are STILL the ONLY devices that still cover under warranty firmware upgrades & downgrades done by the END user. The OS is on Java code. The ENTIRE OS. So that said they're not quite smartphones because complex applications cannot be installed or written for them, most of the more sophisticated apps are server side based with an interractive interface for the end user. Their corporate darlings because they can be whiped clean, locked from end user installing apps, prevent data backups from the end user, removal or blocking the phone application service, install service books/databases or applications, and finally pw resets ALL done by an administrator once the device has data connecitivity on the cellular network IF their administered on the BES (BlackBerry Exchange Server) which piggy backs on the Microsoft or Notes Domino exchange servers (theres another that is barely as wide spread as the above two). Furthermore the camera & memory card slot components of the 8100 & upcoming 8800 that I mention below can also be limited/locked from the BES if its administered to one.

Right now only the 8100 has a camera and a memory card slot. Only the 7270 has WiFi but its NOT a cellphone. within 3 months a full qwerty with MicroSD, WiFi and camera will be announced officially and just as slim as the 8100. Between this and the rumored Nokia E61i with a camera the SE M600 & its update has some serious competition!

M600 is an encredibly styled device. Very clean, slim but not too skinny with performance. Give it a camera with autofocus of 2MP along with LED flash and WiFi? Then it'll generate nice sales for SE and a larger programming community.

We all agree however, that further improvements are welcome.
So instead of listing generic complaints, why don't we address specific problems that can be (realistically) rectified in a FW upgrade?

Exactly. And I would say further memory management improvement is the most important one.

@prom

SGH 607 doesnt have wifi, and they dont know when its out in europe, wants swedish keyboard (not available on P990 by the way).

Is there another 600 model coming up that you know about?

To all, I dont hate my P990, its just not living up to expextations (& cost)

There was a SPECIFIC reason why I stated the SGH-i600 NOT the 607. THe 607 is known as the BlackJack on Cingular in US. THe 607 has NO WiFi or HSDPA. The 600 has BOTH!

Here is a russian page translated.

Should be out just before Mid March 07. With the link above you can see my post of the HTC S630!

bjorne,
Earlier u asked if i had tried other phones/PDA's, yes i have, & i just dont find any of them giving me the nice "balance" beween phone & PDA that P series gives me.

I think you hit the mark when you said Value for money, if you paid full price & got a really bad P990 then you SHOULD be angry about that.

You see i think this forum is misleading, as the people who got bad P990's will complain, but all the people who got perfectly good ones have no motivation to come on here & post, so i think like me, many people are more than happy with the phone.
Mine has none of the problems you list above, yes battery life is not as good as old P9 but even with plenty of use, surfing on wifi, Tomtom ETC, i get no probs, the phone works fine (OK once it did freeze when scanning for a hotspot)
it comes in & out of pocket & never experienced your keylock problem, only lost reception once & battery is good for at least 2 days if away but gets a little top up charge most nights so not an issue
Mine is an R7A001 bought brand new on ebay for £200 in October so i really did get value for money, sounds lik you didnt, & i think many P990's must be really troublesome & i sympathize

My free RAM shows 8.8 at worst & 15 at best but still performs correctly with no restarts or problems opening programs or any bugs so my view of my phone reflects this seems i was just lucky maybe.
I have had all the Pseries so size is not an issue.
