About the XDA Atom ... I have one sitting right here next to me.
No, it doesn't come with a GPS reciever, it only comes with software pre-installed that you can use with an external GPS reciever.
The size is quite nice. Its smaller (in height) than my M600i but ticker and wider. Also heavier.
I have used the atom for quite a while (and still sometimes do when struggling with activesync). I have faced the following issues:
* You can only use it one handed for making phone calls. You cannot use it one-handed to send SMS or any other text application. I find my self constantly pulling out the stylus.
* Speaking of the stylus, its very thin an unreliable. The box comes with two, and one slipped from my hand, landed on the table, and the tip snapped off. Didn't happen to my P910 stylus which got more (ab)use from me.
* The phone tends to get hot, especially behind the top speaker and because of the glossy cover, you will end up with tons of fingerprints on it. The Xda Atom Exec doesn't have this problem since its got a rubber-like
coating on its shell.
* There is (atleast on mine) a constant buzzing that comes when you are on call; and its very annoying.
Things I like about it:
* The media player is quite nice, and unlike HTC/i-mate the default application set is quite useful.
* It comes with a great service from O2 that will inform you if there is a new update available for your device (and any other updates). For example, recently I downloaded updated operator settings.
* The wifi comes in handy to send off messages and to browse.
* When the phone is active, as soon as you type a number it pulls up your address book and searches through it, very nice and handy feature and I wish M600 had it.
As per your requirement of being able to use Hotmail/MSN -- it works best on WM devices (obviously). So if that is a big requirement for you, then go with a WM5 device.
As far as applications definitely WM5 wins here as its been out for a while and doesn't suffer some of the 'growing pains' of UIQ3. You will find TONS of useless (and some useful) applications. One of my favorite apps for WM5 is Navigon.
If you need a phone first, then PDA -- then go with the P990. If you need a PDA that can also make calls, I suggest the HTC TyTn.
Hope this helps
