Well the iPhone isn't actually a smartphone anyway. It doesn't have much support for its OS application wise either for the business market.

Also, its camera is worse (no AF and flash, no competition), no doubt horrible battery life, no real keys, no one handed use, no 3G, no removable battery, and no card slot.

The iPhone isn't meant to target the types of people that the P990 is. The iPhone is stylish and slim, but that's for fashion freaks, not tech savvy users.

not true... people keep saying the lack of apps... it has email, it has exchange it has push.. it has wifi... those are business features...you don't even need all of those to be a true business phone... the bb pearl.. is a business phone.. and you don't need to install anything...

the whole idea is you don't need keys.. that's what UIQ has been trying to do.. but hasn't made the leap.. it went half and half and has created a mess...

i don't see why you can't use the phone with one hand? i can use the e61, m600 with onehand... the battery life.. isn't great but the last time i checked.. my m600i and p990i only lasted me a day anyways after some heavy usage..

3rd party apps are only truly needed when the stock phone apps suck... but if it works out of the box then why do you need 3rd party for your core apps? that's right you don't

is the Apple UI good enough to survive without keys? hard to say... but right now... i'd say apple on paper has done what UIQ has been trying to do... not saying this product is perfect but it seems pretty damn good.... as for card slot... that's not truly needed if the device acts as a removable drive... or if you can share data over wifi....

Look at the time I'm posting at anyway, the CLAIMED talk time of the iPhone is 5 hours, if you use this phone heavily I would half that. Suddenly the P990's battery life doesn't look so shody does it, with a claimed 9 hours talk time on GSM only.
And I can use my phone quite happily thanks, I have yet to read the instruction book and find it very easy to use. The iPhone just seems... basic.
And to sync the iPhone you MUST use Itunes, how many company's will allow that? It should support exchange but to what level we don't know yet. It's not been confirmed if it supports outlook fully yet.

why is a phone suppose to be complicated...

for example...why do i have to enter wap settings? nokia s60 downloads them as soon as i plug in my sim...

does the p990i work perfectly without pc suite? exactly...

Yeah, PC suite doesn't try to overtake all my videos and music though and I have had absolutley no trouble with it at all. And I find my P990I perfectly easy to use, and it comes with all my network settings installed and working, that's a benefit of getting it on contract.

and does your work let you install pc suite?

if you think getting a branded phone from a carrier is a good thing besides the price... then i see no point in replying to you anymore.. enjoy your p990i

I do think it's a good thing. If I loose my WAP settings I just call the CS department 24/7 who will SMS me the settings that automatically install upon opening the SMS. What's so hard about that? And I don't use my phone for work, but I'm sure a small programme that just does one job interfacing with a phone is a lot better then Itunesis on a works PC on a network.

A few more things about the iPhone:

1. There is no tactile feedback. In other words, you must always be looking at the phone to use it; which really makes it hazard to use when driving (although, no one should use a phone without a headset/handsfree when driving). It also impairs it for the use of the disabled.

2. Battery life is going to be an issue seeing how big the screen is compared to the size of the device.

3. It is more a novelty item than a day-to-day phone. I don't doubt people will use it as a smartphone, but there is still a place for a phone like the P990 and its eventual successor.

I think the main point of the iphone is that it shows other phone manufacturers how to deviate from the norm in designing phones. I'm sure that after its official launch; other manufacturers will take cues from it and incorporate them into their phones. One thing I hope is used is the accelerometer.

I know iPhone is touchscreen, but how about handwriting recognizition since it's not equipped by stylus? It would be very hard to write a character using your finger, it requires large area on the screen for each character you type by finger.
I wonder how to write message. Virtual keyboard? How big is the keyboard?

@dragoneye: last time i checked, my p990 downloaded all the settings on master reset. if it was connected to the pc, they were downloaded through usb, if not, they are downloaded by a default gprs profile .
