You have to be totally out of your mind if you're comparing iPOD to W880. I think W950 is a better competitor, and i think its better than iPOD.
Plus, the new iPOD is on the horizon and it will be even better

if you can compare w950 with ipod then you can certainly compare w880 with it too.
I have both and talking musically, they both have pretty much the same music player though of course the w950 has an touch screen interface to the player
my w950 has 4gb on board and my w880 has 2gb but thats just all about how much music is available to you and not which is better
to answer the topic, of course w880 (or w950) is no threat to ipod because the SE walkmans are still perceived and advertised as phones with music players whereas ipod has a whole different marketing approach totally dedicated to music complete with a well accepted software (itunes) for populating the device with music, and for this reason alone people will choose ipod over SE walkmans when specifically looking for music players
indeed in any music player device review I have seen ipod compared with iriver or creative or... etc etc, but almost never compared with SE phones
edit: to answer jedi-master's comment, w880 will sell well because of its size, but I still don't believe it will be as this thread title suggests, "a competitive threat" to ipod

The iPod, to many, is a lot better. But to the average person a good player is enough.
No doubt techies will slate the W880i but the average person will be quite happy with it and this is where newer, slim Walkman players will get sales. People might just want to sacrifice the iPods music playing credentials for the extra features you get with music-phone. Thats where the crossover is.

they aren't going to dig deep and find out about the w880 such that it becomes a "competitive threat".
my point also was that even if they googled comparison sites, they wouldn't find much to ocmpare w880, or w950, or any SE walkman really with the mainstream music players, and if SE is to have a "competitive threat" (excuse the quotes again) then their walkman phonea re going to have become much more known and accepted by the average person
even talking to my brother who has had T68i, T610, K700 he didn't even think about getting an SE for his music needs and instead bought an ipod for himself and for his wife as soon as he had a need/desire for portable music. for me that said it all, especially as I had already showed him the W950 capabilities. he just wanted something simple and straightforward and easy to use
nope. as good as SE walkmans are coming they are no thread to ipod yet

i think it's a matter of time that ppl get used to music phones. why would i have a separate device for music, for calling, texting, camera, etc. if i can have an all-in-one device? i have a k750 and i use it for everything. i haven't thought of buying a specific Mp3 player so far. i think my phone is capable of satisfying my needs. although it depends on the ppl's concept of Mp3 player.

Thanks you just raised another point.
How many people out there might have been put off purchasing a dedicated music-player because they already owned a mobile with music playing function and radio? There is definitely an overlap, between the two.

I'm fairly sure that collectively there will be some impact on ipod by all music style mobile phones

is any one with a W880i have trouble with the Track ID. Mine doesn't working...just delivers the message 'required server does not have a DNS entry'. Internet connections are fine though. Anyone with any ideas?
