for me p990

it will be another 6 months for me at least for me or any one to get the p700 phone. when it first comes out.. it will be expensive and i dont go out and buy a product at full retail price or inflated price. i'll just wait until it becomes common.

The M600's replacement, but with a P series title? I'm not convinced. Personally I think this is the replacement for the P990, despite the fact it's flipless and carries the M's keyboard. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that an M610i is on the cards too, which would be the proper replacement for the M600. Remember the "M" series is aimed at messaging users who don't want a camera - ie, the corporate market - and the P700 is no substitute for that, on account of the whopping great camera on the back of it.

There may well be an even greater phone in the works - presumably with GPS - but will it be a flipper like the P990? I really don't think so. Now that they've broken the old P series mould with the P700, I think it will stay broken - UIQ3 just doesn't need a flip.

This makes sense, a lot of people are now waiting for a p990 successor, but all along we were told this was it and atm theres no info to suggest there will be another. Just that the p700 is not high tech enough. The m610 seems to be cancelled now as there may not be enough interest another m600 (wifi alone isnt enough). Maybe a follow up to the p700 will be released earlier than usual and could be considered a p990 successor.

But the flip is pointless bulk because the m600 keyboard is flip on and off.

The flip isn't pointless at all, it enables the phone to be easily used as it's primary function "a phone" and still have a full qwerty stashed away behind, and if you don't like it you can simply remove it!

If the flip was non-removable i could see peoples cause for concern!

Actually the flip is the reason I bought P990 and not M600.
So....

Well with all this said. You guys know SE. They will announce the phone and then release it when it outdated and it will probably still have probs. Thats the case with their recent smartphones. Hope this doesn't follow in the same trend. My choice would be to wait for the p700 or get a n95 then.

@nanu
The M600 kb is as easy to use as a phone without the need to stash away the qwerty. And remove weight and bulk. On the p990 the flip is made to be important because SE made it useless as a phone without the flip. Even the numbers on the qwerty didn't do anything (on purpose?) without the phone app. This is what gave value to the flip. If the p990 had a m600 kb instead of its qwerty, then the flip is not needed because the dial pad is right there, which is what has happened with the p700.

Spot on mate.

I was a P series with flip user. The keypad implementation on the M600 is perfect as its like the flip is on but without the bulk!!!

Correct me if i am wrong but does the M600 or P700 have a joypad or softkeys to operate the phone with?

It's horses for courses mate, i personally didn't buy the M600 instead waited for the P990 after having P800,P910i i wanted a flip! as do other buyers but that is a matter of opinion.

I agree the phone is difficult to use as a phone without the flip!

Really, whilst continue to make phones with an M600 style keyboard you will be happy, and whilst they continue to make they with a removable flip i shall be happy!

Same here. One of the reasons I returned the m600 was that I felt it missed a flip.

And that it looks like a calculator (Sorry, can't help but say it everytime.)

p990 for me. I took the flip off and have no intention to bring it back but also i need full qwerty and bigger screen.
I dont wait for p990 replacement at all. When it comes in a year or so ok, but for now my phone fulfill all my needs and as ares said it will make as even more happy.
IMO P990 is far from the old phone because I dont see 10 or 20 better phones out there. It is still one of the best in the market. Actually one of the IT employees in my company wanted to quit so management ofer her a higher salary and some more benefits. One of the benefit was a phone so she said she wanted the best one. And they gave her P990:)
