How about a QWERTY keyboard (e61, e61i, e90)? Makes responding to e-mail much easier while traveling (as an ex-e61 user, currently a M600 and P990 user).
Also, the e61 does not have a camera for security reasons. RIM's "bread & butter" Blackberry handhelds, those that are mainly sold to corporate users, are ones that don't have the camera feature.
IMHO, the original e61, without a camera, was launched to compete directly in this environment. However, RIM realized it was falling behind in the non-corporate market and that the corporate environment was becoming more lax with WM5 handhelds with cameras, so it added mulitmedia functionality. Still, many corporate users have the non-camera handhelds.
AGAIN! More research is needed.
1) Nokia E61i has a 2MP camera!
2) The BB Pearl (8100) & the to be released (already announced) BB 8300 BOTH have camera's (Pearl = 1.3MP with LED, 8300 2MP with LED)! Be VERY careful in disputing that THESE either don't have cameras OR that a high security corporation would shun either of these. I have a Lv3 access to a BES Manager (not direct to the server but works & acts the same) and I CAN set an IT Policy to DISABLE FULL usuage of several things.
a) Disable complete usuage of the Camera!
b) Disable complete usuage of the Micro SD card (either on the BB unit, either in the unit connected to the USB cable as a Mass Storage Mode, OR disable the MicroSD card by completely encrypting it so that IF its removed it will show up as a FULL memory drive on any computer and you CANNOT format it & you CANNOT READ from it.)
Pure security of all the above can be done IF the device is placed on a corporate BES server and has a data connection. The End user will have NO CLUE what I've done until its too late! This is just a small taste of WHY the RIM infrastructure gives BIG BROTHER that strong arm when you're out of the office. Just a tiny taste. I'm STILL learning a lot every day & even I have no clue what else can be done. But I know their miles & years ahead of Microsoft & Nokia's Intellisync technology. But as I said before, the competition to RIM is well advancing.
BTW, you may want to avoid the E70, QVGA - only 2 firmware upgrades, and its resolution although incredible is dated. Nokia will not be using it in time. Plus that hinge - just because its a hinge - may go wrong, but an excellent device regardless.
My suggestions E65, E61i, E90 if you want the power of the P990 (yet more applications & more stable with a 3.2MP camera with AutoFocus & LED).
N series there's quite a few very powerful devices. you MAY be able to get those VPN apps working on them BUT not sure how the VoIP on PBX will be supported or even if it'll work.
Bottom line go play with the range of devices that appeal to you & YOU choose whats best for you.
Cheers everyone sorry for the thread hijack.
