As far as i know, they can easily change IMEI's. They get a cheap, "legally acquired" phone, and then "copy-paste" its IMEI to the stolen, expensive phone. They throw the cheap phone away, and now you have an N95 that is registered as a 3310 on the records.

yeh thats the thing how can the IMEI be copy pasted dude.! danm those bastar..d..ad..asd.fs

Whenever I'm gonna take a long walk or I'm going to a crowded place like the stadium I take my Motorola C115 aswell as my actual phone. Donīt even put a SIM card in it. That way, if somebody tries to mug me, I'll just hand that over instead of my K790a. And I put the C115 in the most obvious pocket for if I get pick pocketed.

Im thinking of putting a toy phone in my pocket as backup phone... even a dummy phone will do the trick.

Well unless its an armed robbery its usually snatch and run

Once in Mumbai, I was travelling in a very crowded bus while sitting on the seat in front of the exit. It was so crowded that a seated person could only see the legs of other people standing in the gangway. I was holding my newly bought w800i around the keypad with both hands and messaging someone. Suddenly, a hand came from between the legs and tried to snatch away the phone by holding onto its upper part. Luckily I had a good grip and held on to the phone but before I could react furthur, the perpetrator had jumped out of the moving bus. He was too quick for words and people could only notice a flurry of activity. Lucky as hell!!

here in dominican republic, the problem's almost the same as everyone else's

in most cases, they come in pairs, in a motor or a scooter, try to get in front of you, and, with a gun or a knife, tell you to give them everything... there have been like 20 kills in the last 5 months, and one of the worst ones was for a crappy nokia phone.... thank god they catched those bastards..... imagine what it would be for you if your daughter, while trying to get to your house, gets robbed and killed... and that's only the tip of the iceberg here.
