@Dogmann, of course it's all relative to personal preference etc, and of course not everyone wants a touchscreen, the same way not everyone wants a camera, not everyone wants GPS, etc etc.
Does the fact that more people use non-touchscreen smartphones than touchscreen models prove anything? Yes, it proves that many people get by without a touchscreen. Does that mean I should get by without a touchscreen, or that nobody needs a touchscreen? Of course not. It's a feature, like any other - worthless to some, priceless to others.
Speaking personally, I will always opt for a touchscreen because I find it is simply the best way to navigate the features of a smartphone, short of plugging a mouse into it. If I'm using a spreadsheet I can click on a cell, rather than joypad my way to it. If I'm browsing a web page I can click on a link rather than scrolling down to it. I can scribble a note or draw a picture, drag and drop, the list goes on. To me, personally, there's no comparison between that rich and efficient user experience and the clunky joypad driven machinations of Series 60 but hey, that's just me. All those people can't be wrong I'm sure. They're not necessarily right, but I'm sure they can't all be wrong...
Of course I have some bias because I've been writing on P series touchscreens since the P800 (which didn't even have T9 let alone Qwerty) so I'm a dab hand at the excellent Jot handwriting system - much, much better than the on screen keyboard if I might say. I still use it regularly on the M600 when I've got the pen out, it's just quicker sometimes, and it's very nice to be able to choose between that and the keyboard. I'm looking forward to doing the same on the P700 - and won't be looking twice at the N95 in the meantime.

I have already said "dont really need to do a lot of writing and editing of documents". Not many are like you who needs to write essay on phone. Some people can type faster with T9 (with prediction) than writing on screen. Many people who own TS phone said one thing they missed is using keypad and writing SMS using ONLY ONE HAND which obviously you cannot do well with a TS. That's why many new WM/p-series comes with a keypad/board.
One thing is for sure. Most things you can do with a TS can be done using keypad (albeit more slowly in some operations) but it is not true the other way. The obvious one is writing text using only ONE HAND. Second is having many one-press shortcut. Another disadvantage of TS is that it is hardly readable under bright lights. One other thing. The keyboard of p990 is quite useless with its small keys. The one on p700 is just one word, queer.
Look at the Blackberry. No touchscreen. Most of these phones are bought by business users. And BB outsold p-series by a huge margin.

mib, you're quite wrong, sorry. The M600 (like the P700, aka P1) is a touchscreen phone with qwerty keyboard, and you can easily open, compose, and send a message with one hand. In fact you can do pretty much everything one handed, you just don't have to. It's form factor gives you more choice over how you use it, not less.
The P1 improves on the bright light issue with a transflective screen, making it much better in daylight. It also adds another ten "one press shortcuts" to the M600's already ample five (they're pressable by screen or jog-dial, obviously).
The keyboard on the M600 and P700 is actually two words - bloody brilliant. Have you used it? Thought not.

Well now, you said it yourself!!! Since you can get along fine by using m600/p700 keypad only. So in effect a TS is a supplementary. So the buyer should ask themselves whether they want to sacrifice all the additional advanced functionalities that N95 offered for a "supplementary" TS.

mib, of course you can do everything one handed when you need to do everything one handed, but the P1 (and M600 before it) is for people who aren't always so busy with their other hand
With one hand you can do all the common functions just fine, and use the smartphone stuff about as well as S60, but with two hands it becomes something much more than that. With two hands you can type as you would at your own computer's keyboard, and click around the interface as you would your computer's mouse. It's a better experience all round, and it's one that S60 phones simply can't offer. It's not that they can't do it as well, more that they can't do it at all.
Put it this way - you could unplug your mouse from your computer right now and use just one hand (and the Alt key) to navigate Windows and type all you want, but why would you choose to if you didn't have to? If you had both hands free, you'd use both of them on the keyboard, and make good use of your mouse to point and click, no?

Well, you forgot one really important factor. Unlike the computer UI, the S60 UI is designed for easy one-handed use with the keypad. e.g. you can use one tap of stylus to activate an app in the main menu. in S60, you just press the number key corresponding to position of the app in menu.
With TS, you have to have hand and eye coordination to tap screen. With keypad, you just click away. If you r used to it you dont even need to look at the screen. Esp good when u r using phone on the move. So a TS is not without its disadvantages.
It's not that they can't do it as well, more that they can't do it at all.
btw: I think you overexagerate the important of TS. Just name one operation that a TS can do that a keypad cannot.
With two hands you can type as you would at your own computer's keyboard
I think this is another exageration. The M600/p700 keypad is really user unfriendly with its 2-sided press. And not to mention the tiny buttons. This is far from typing on computer keyboard. I am sure many can type as fast using T9 keypad on N95 than using the keyboard of m600/p1.

After seeing how unstable the N95's are at the moment, I would definately roll with the P990!

No, i didn't forget - S60 does a reasonable job with one-handed navigation, but then - so what? What you're ignoring (or unaware of) is that it's pretty good in UIQ3 too. It's just better with a touchscreen, the same as S60 would be...
With TS, you have to have hand and eye coordination to tap screen.
And with a keypad you have to have fingers - what's your point? Human beings are born with all these things normally..
With keypad, you just click away. If you r used to it you dont even need to look at the screen. Esp good when u r using phone on the move. So a TS is not without its disadvantages.
But you're not identifying the disadvantages of a touchscreen, you're
just listing things you like about S60. You can see that's a different thing, can't you?

I'll give you 3 just for starters -
Accurate sketching/drawing
Handwriting
Jumping to any chosen point/navigational element instantly (eg spreadsheet cell, text character, web link on a page)
I think this is another exageration. The M600/p700 keypad is really user unfriendly with its 2-sided press. And not to mention the tiny buttons.
Sorry, but you're just demonstrating is that you've no experience of the M600/P1 keyboard!
