Well if it is going to put even more pressure on his already overstretched platoon then it is understandable.
Not even that his platoon mates wouldn't accept him, they would be prepared to fight beside him regardless of the risks.
Its their families that are saying he has been singled out for special treatment, but the way I see it is his whole platoon would be a magnet for the insurgents so, their families, in a way, should be thankful their sons/daughters are not put in even more danger.

The whole thing was handled badly by the Army from day 1, what's the point of training the guy up to lead his troops into that type of situation if he is going to be kept in cotton wool doing cerimonial duties throughout his career.

If you ask me this whole thing is one big Publicity stunt for the Royals....Will he go,Won't he go?....he wants to go but they won't let him....Just let the boy go and do what he's trained to do (to be a soldier).
Why do ordinary men and women have to go and die in Iraq but poor old harry gets special treatment because he's a prince...Its the Queen that supports this genocide war against innocent Iraqi's...let her family go and and do the dirty work first!
And i agree with Batesie....Princes and Kings have always been targets in wars gone by so thats no excuse at all!

well you dont think that prince's and king's werent hot targets hundreds of years ago?!?!? It was the same them and hundred of people were prepared to die to protect them.
let him go if he wants to go he's a trained fighter now too.

@axxxr
The queen is not allowed to make her political views known so we don't know if she supports it or not.

Of course she supports the war....why else would she be stroking bushes backside and on her recent visit to Bush Ghetto saying things like We \"Must stand side by side, shoulder to shoulder come what may\" ...We may not know her personal views but her support for the U.S pretty much says it all.

Well, @axxxr, I agree with you that nobody should get special treatment, but like @goldenface said, it's not so much about Harry dying in battle, but more about him attracting more danger for the rest of his platoon. It would be very hard for them to carry out their duties while having to deal with the additional pressure. And if they can't do what they are there to do, then they might as well not be there in the first place. So in this case, I can understand why Harry's not being sent in. Of course, whether it was a publicity stunt or not, we'll never know, but it sure has gotten people talking.

Other soldiers don't have to go to war, but that is the path they as individuals chose and the path that they are brave enough to follow and risk their lives for. Harry is no different, like the other royals before him he too doesn't want any special treatment, but just to go and fight for his country. Restricted by no one else other than the general of the army.

well, if they dont want him in the fireline, he would be great as a radio base, his ears are perfect as a radar... so he can sit all day long and move his head left and right
