Personally I think the screen surround is definitely plastic with a metalic spray finish. It is definitely not solid metal.

Nanu's picture made me curious. I took out mu multimeter and, guess what,
the casing around the screen and buttons is conductive (about 2 ohms of resistance between any two points on it).
That means it's either metal film on the plastic or a color with very much metal in it (I'm not sure if the latter would be conductive, though). I've noticed that it indeed feels like metal sometimes (after lying around, it feels cold). It's just the casing that shows on Nanu's image that is conductive, the parts on the sides in the same color (where all the side buttons are) are not conductive. The conductive part stretches from just above the flip to the "Sony Ericsson" text. That is, the part that looks to be made of metal.

It's a metal,try to bang it with a metal, also compare to a plastic the sounds are very different. You know the sound of a metal banging on another metal.

So where's your pic then, Johnex??
And fair play to everyone else who did extensive testing here! I did read right, then(conductive plastic? Yeah, right....)!

@spine6:
It's not all metal. As Nanu said, it seems to be metal film on a plastic case.

correction from what i've said, its a mixed of metal and plastic not a pure metal but its good for protecting the screen and that is the most important..

looks more like metalic paint, cos on my phone the paint is gone, and you can see a brownish plastic behind the paint. will post a pic when i have time, have exams, so i have to study.

If it was solely plastic I cannot see why

would go to the lengths of making sure all of the case that has the Metal/Mettalic finish comes into contact with the pcb via a spring.
