My post is not about what will be or not be with this particular camera phone but all camera phones and the constant complaining that surrounds them. Esato has become a forum for nothing but complainers (me included in this case) whining about camera this and camera that. Only someone that really, really, really has no idea about cameras would remotely consider using a camera phone as their permanent, "take all my photo's with it" camera. This shows a lack of maturity and understanding.

Camera phones are add-on's and not meant to replace dedicated DSLR's( for those that don't know: Digital Single Lens Reflex). Get over it. You get what you get with a camera phone and no amount of software tweaking can give you more than what is there.

I dont think theres a prob with people using there phone's as there cams. Not every one wants to have there phone in one pocket and a digi cam in the other

I agree with most of the posts on this board, although I remember, while following the introduction of the k800, that the prototype photos were definitely improved by launch, but those who were hoping for interspersed firmware upgrades to ratchet the quality up even more were definitely somewhat delusional.

I don't use my camera phone as a replacement for a DSLR. I use my camera phone in social situations where lugging around a dSLR is either impossible or will give your dick a death sentence. I use my camera phone for club pics, party pics, bars, dinner etc...Why I have stuck to SE has been the Xenon flash which makes these situations possible.

Anything else, say taking a picture of an exotic car while you're walking down the street, is just pro-bono, in that you don't have to lugg equipment around. Anything else would be simply too much to ask. I think I will be quite happy with the camera aspects of the product when its released, as long as:

-They increase flash burst
-Make it more stable
-Decrease some of the noise in dark pictures

if not, we can wait and see what n82 offers. Competition always helps...

Well I guess I come under the catergories of camera phone whiners. However, I do understand the constraints and how the technology works. You know, if mobile phones didn't have added functionality like camera's, media players, java and so on there would be little point to forums like Esato as there would be nothing much to talk about.

I actually do understand that camera phones may never be as good dedicated cameras - but who knows what might come about in the future. If the latest batch of K850 photos are real(which I doubt) then the K850 is taking some pretty damn good photos. But, if the 1st batch are a sample it is going to be dissappointing - even though it's a prototype it should pretty much reflect what the final product is capable of.

Is actually think it is fair to expect better quality from camera phones. This is especially the case as SE are advertising the K850 as a True Digital Camera. They did this with the K800 as well and I'll tell you now - it does not live upto it's hype. Therefore, it is fair for people to complain if there are obvious image quality issues that should not affect a certain size photo. If people dont make noise manufacturers won't listen and improvements won't happen.

Lastly, it's not just the physical aspects that affect the phones. It's the software on the phone as well. e.g. Pictures from a K800 could be so much better if they weren't ruined by too much JPG compression. The same applies even more so to the images I've seen from N73's and N95's. I even have an email from SE confirming that the jagged effects I see in images taken by the K800 is the effect of JPG compression. So, quite clearly this comes down to software not the physical restrictions of the phone.

it realy depends what your requirements of a camera are. For someone who uses a DSLR or Prosumer digital camera, then obviously a camera phone will disappoint. But for someone who currently uses a 3-4MP consumer digital camera, a camera phone can be an efficient convergent device.

Even my K750 2MP jobbie is more than suitable for most of my photography needs. I use it quite a lot in my job and general life (for photographing insurance write offs, chipsets for information - saves me writing it, posters of upcoming gigs, etc etc) I also do a fair bit of creative photography with it.

I've seen very few people claim that a Camera phone is AS good as the latest and greatest digital cameras, and it's absurd when they do. But it's equally absurd to claim that current high end camera phones are useless as digital cameras. They are very competent, and far better than the digital cameras of a few years ago that people were using quite happily. For example I quite happily used my Canon Powershot 350 (300K-VGA) digital camera several years ago, but now even basic 1.3MP or higher camera phones out do it in all respects.

Camera phones only seem crap when you have a "I must have the best of everything" attitude. Well I don't need the best camera possible (and I'm not a professional photographer) and now that high end camera phones are competent cameras, my desire of having a convergent handset (camera/audio device/phone) is possible.

I see no advantage in carrying around another device for my spontanteous photography needs when I can have a competent camera included in my phone. It just doesn't make sense. Sure I would love to own a DSLR, and one day I'll get one, but for everyday use, I'm always gonna prefer having my camera as part of my phone.

BTW, the hacked camera drivers out there for the SE camera phones are FAR better than the stock - reducing noise, improving colour and so on. Sure MP can't be changed, but the camera driver hackers really know what they are doing and overall quality is fantasticly improved over SE's effort (sad but true).

Hey dude. I hear you, but as you know, physics will always be in the way. The image sensor simply has to be larger. Now, if Nokia or SE were willing to put in a 3 in. x 3in. sensor, then you might have something there. But no one would want a phone the size of an SLR. Sort of defeats the purpose.
