@zangetsu

I don't know where you have been hiding but as smart phones goes the last release of SE UIQ3 smart phones took being bug ridden to a new and unseen levels and they still have problems plus SE are no longer going to be releasing any more Firmware.

I think the problem here is every one perceives a smart phone as something different and what some users need or want it just doesn't do.

Whilst for others they just don't need or want that functionality and so the iPhone actually offers all that they need so for those users the iPhone is perfect. I really don't doubt that the iPhone will be a great success it just won't be the most dominant smart phone but then there never is just one device as that's why we get so many different types of smart phone. Some have to have a Touchscreen, some need a full qwerty, some want a more Multimedia focused device that can can still handle documents. Others want a more business oriented smart phone that can still perform some multimedia tasks.

There really is plenty of room in the market place for all these different types of smart phones to satisfy all the different requirements of users IMO.

Marc

-yes i know that's why that's bad for the owners of those phones. at least the iphone on it's first release only has minimal bugs not unlike SE when they usuallly release new phones it has way more problems. it came from apple itself that it's not a smartphone. maybe apple will release a smartphone soon.

yes i know Marc so your reply like this is'nt necessary. i don't know but you did not understand my previous post. i never meant it to be negative for that's what you think.

500,000 units in one weekend seems to point to a different outcome don't you think?

sure it'll be a hit, just not on the same scale as iPods, the market is too saturated already.

The inovation in the iPhone ...

off the top of my head i can think of 2. Multitouch, and User Interface.

The UI is superb, let's be honest here. It is years ahead of UIQ, windows mobile or S60.

Does the iPhone have flaws... yes a lot. The camera sucks, and no 3G. There are also many limitations which *may* be fixed by software (mms, stereo bluetooth etc).

But not inovative? Depends where you are looking i guess.

me i can think of:

a. great safari web browser

b. visual mail wherein you don't have to listen to all your vmail one by one but you can select the ones that you want to listen too first. really cool i say

c. sms is like IM

d. touch pad

d. better interface and faster menu navigation due to mac os inside

other 3rd party apps are now being developed as we post

Someone posted in another section that multitasking is a pain as you have to navigate back and forth through the whole menu and can't actually see which applications are running. Neither can you go back if you make a mistake as there is no back button. I think that would take some getting used to and I hope its introduced in later versions.
