Go for it FARCRY! (Don't have to bother about Turkey brains aka damo55...)
Are you going to compensate Farcry if he will feel cheated after he buys the phone? You are behaving like a salesman who gets benefit from Farcry's purchase of this phone.

I can't believe how people can really think "Out of the Box" when it comes down to just giving an advice. I am indeed, behaving like a Salesman who speaks for SE cause I feel they are supposed to be praised for the P990i creation. I have used almost every PDA phone with great features as well, but P990i would be my recommendation if FARCRY wants some advice. Whether or not FARCRY listens isn't the topic here. Ultimately it is up to him/ her to decide.
I have had my say in this particular column, so people... Get a life! (Turkey or not...)

@ALL.
OK if this P990 is just so perfect could any of you geniuses explain
a) Why it's price has plummeted like a rocket in under a Year for a brand NEW Sim Free device from recognised dealers.
b) The 2nd hand value is even lower.
c) There was such an outcry when after the last update and the introduction of new bugs and SE said no more new Firmware.
If this device is so good and does what it claims why were people looking to return their devices and demand their money back as either you or them are crazy.
The P990 was a great concept that should of advanced the P910 experience the sad fact is that due to not enough free Ram and very badly coded firmware it has failed to deliver on it's promise and hopefully SE really have learnt from this mistake. But no one in their right mind can claim the P990 delivers what it claims in the adverts.
If the buyer can live with it's limitations and accept little or no further support than it is very cheap for what it is. How ever if you are buying it for all it's functionality as advertised you are likely to be disappointed.
Marc

I am one of those who have just purchased this device. And personally, I feel that although I know that the device has its shortcomings and annoyances, I still like it overall. Now, I realize that I myself paid less than half of what some of the early adopters paid. So, for them, I can understand why they're so upset. The phone is somewhat buggy (no where near as bad as it seemed people were making it out to be in my personal experience). But for what I payed for it, I am quite happy.
I think the price has dropped like a rock because people don't feel its worth the original MSRP. And I know myself, having used the device for just over a week now, I wouldn't pay any more for it than I did.
It's understandable that there was such an outcry towards SE's announcement. A couple new bugs were introduced in the latest firmware, which is not acceptable. I just hope that SE doesn't drop the ball again - many P990 users seem to have given SE one last chance with this next firmware release. I don't know what to say about it really, since I've only ever used the R5A13 and R6D23 firmwares. To me, they are both quite stable. I have never once had my phone restart itself. I will admit that I have had it lock up on a couple occasions, seemingly related to the WLAN client and a WPA-protected access point that I was trying to connect to. But overall, things are quite stable.
I do also admit that the device is somewhat crippled due to the insufficient amount of RAM it has. I would have appreciated a little more RAM to better facilitate multitasking. But for what I've been using it for so far, I haven't had too many issues with it yet. For simple multitasking, it is ok. The main issues I've noticed come when you try to view large webpages on the browser while trying to use the messaging application at the same time. One of these will close. But if you are using contacts, messaging, music, calendar, and a few other applications other than heavy-weights like the browser I've found it to be quite usable.
For me, the reason why I chose it was because I could afford it, and it offered features that I couldn't find cheaply on other devices. Namely, the keyboard and touch screen. In daily use, I've also found the battery life to be surprisingly better than I expected. I've been using it to listen to MP3s at work, and after that, there is still more than enough battery life for me to access the internet, etc. Granted, I don't use 3G. But there is ample battery life for a full day's use of it. This seems to be better than the devices I used to use in the past (Sony Clie TG50 and Sony Clie UX40).
I know that the device fell pretty short of what it was advertised to be. But if you understand this and know what you will be getting, and don't pay full launch price for it, I think you might be satisfied if this is what you want.
I wouldn't say the the P990 is the greatest phone ever. It had the potential to be on paper. But the limited memory and rough ride in the early days has taken a toll on the device's image. If you use it in a mostly linear fashion, I think it will be quite usable. It's a good phone. But definitely understand its short comings before purchasing one...
