imo the p1 is an answer to the cries of p990 owners, and the pain we have suffered waiting patiently for the firmware update that will solve all of our problems.
I don't think so..
Except for the memory leak, which actually isn't solved either, but no longer is a critical issue due to +64 MB Ram.
Have you ever had a look at the 'P1i bugs' thread ? And ?
Haven't you noticed that the title could be easily changed to 'P990 bugs' ?
All the posts and complaints there make me believe that the P1i firmware has been 'developed' as follows:
Open 'P990_R6D23' > Delete FC mode scripts > Modify today, keyboard and some +/- button and other scripts > Save File As 'P1_R6D23'
Done.
Above is just to demonstrate how similar (almost identical) the P1i and P990i are.
Goodbye P990
Welcome to P1i, the paradise of deja vu's
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you should keep your P990i, but if it was a PITA for you, P1i is definitely not the way to go.
If I were you, I'd wait or look elsewhere..

I switched to P1i after 12months of using P990. I am very satisfied. The main reason is that my P-series phone (4th in a row) has become stable and reliable. Especially when using multiple apps. Like Opera, IM+, Messaging, Jukebox in one go. And when I receive a phone call on top of it, nothing gets closed or rebooted. Plus the P1i is smaller, which I have always needed from P990. No flip turned out to be necessary for me.

@myth
What kind of memory leak happened to P990i?
This is my first smartphone and as far as I can see, I've left it on for more than 5 days now and everytime i check SMP, the RAM usage is the same, at about 40%, never increase without me opening new application.

The ram of P1i is twice as much as in P990: 128Mb. And this is the reason why multitasking started to work finally on the P1i. And the main reason form me to switch to P1i. The P-series phones are the best ones in esign and f orm factor that I have eveer used. And it only gets better, as P1i is smaller and easier to carry.
Maybe one day I will get over the 1000USD paid by the P990, which I then had to sell for 250USD. It hurts, but time heals the pain...

I sold my p990 and got myself the p1i (still have p910i)
i really love the p1i no reboots, works fast, reliable, multi multi tasking,...
and i prefer the rocker keys over the full mini qwerty p990.
hope the next p series still have those rockers.
so if you have the money and have p990 probs, Do it! get that p1i
just mo.

I say go for it. I've had mine for 2 weeks now and its proven to be extremely stable and reliable, the form factor and build quality is excellent overall great value for money. Too bad the P990 had so many shortcomings and has turned a lot of people off on SE's P series. But this definitely redeems the P series.
