@YoungRobbo

Well obviously i don't know where your offices are but here in London i have full 3G and HSDPA every where i go as does Masseur and a lot of other very happy Forum members that have all moved to T-Mobile especially for there amazeing Data deals.

But i suppose you can't please everyone and everyone is free to use what ever Network suits them best apparently 02 can't even give a reliable 3G service in most places is what people say and using Data on their network would of cost me a fortune over the last year and the same goes for Vodafone even with their new price plans. So as long as T-Mobile continue to provide a service i am happy with I'm not going to change Networks anytime soon. You of course are welcome to use which ever Network suits you the best even if it s a lot more expensive as that is freedom of choice and you can spend your money as you wish. But please don't try and tell me that T-Mobile are rubbish when myself and so many others are more than happy with the service we get as what you are saying is just not true for everyone even if it is for you.

Marc

Two weeks ago Orange told me they had the P1i in testing. I don't know if he was just saying that because I was cancelling.

Well I'm on Orange with about 9 or 10 months left on my contract, I went into town today and had a play on the P1i in the O2 shop and in Carphone Warehouse in the UK.

I would like to say that I won't touch this phone after Orange basterdise it, the homescreen SE have made is fantastic, intuitive, easy to use and I just KNOW Orange will put their own homescreen on with the icons down the side like they did on the P990 thus totally runing the device IMO.

Take my advice, buy it sim free and stuff Oranges pathetic idea of a crap homescreen.
AND they STILL have yet to release the last firmware SE released for the P990 so YES I would say they are ditching support for it, it's not Oranges website anymore either.

And trust me the P1i is worth EVERY penny next to the P990, it's sssooooo much better.
And O2 sell the P1i for £400 sim free, and that's £40 more then SE's own online shop so no they are not value for money. But their tarrifs are a different matter.

Now can anyone tell me if Expansys in the UK or Play.com sell UK spec P1i's unlocked? Or should I buy one of the SE website?

When I phoned Orange some weeks ago, before I switched to O2, they said they didn't know if they were going to do the P1, and they usually know when the testing/customising has started, which a that point hadn't happened. They also didn't know if they were going to carry the W960, after which I decided to switch to O2.

Fully agree with other posters about the O2 data rate charges, they really are over the top, though Orange isn't that cheap either. You can opt for a 'talker' or 'texter' tariff, but mobile internet tariffs are nowhere to be found. I am just hopeing that, with the Wifi, I'll be able to cut the data cost, since I'll be online for 'free' at home and other hotspots (haven't found any yet though). Unfortunately no wireless networks at work either, but one lives in hope.

I'm merely stating that T-Mobile wouldn't work for everybody, regardless of how cheap they are. I actually work around the Heathrow area, somewhere which you would expect to get good coverage. Not the case with out T-Mobile phones I'm afraid, regardless of the price they're offering for data.

Just my experiences, that's all. No need to get overly defensive of you mobile provider though.

...Just get the best phone you can for free, say an N95 or something, list it on ebay, and by a sim free p1 that way there are no customisations to worry about!

That's what I thought of doing. Orange gave me a stupendous offer to stay - plus I get almost unlimited WAP by virtue of a very old package (OK, I know it's archaic, but 150Mb for a few quid is not to be sneezed at).

What would be the phone with the highest resale value that Orange carry? The N95? I think they offered me this, but I can't remember. I know they offered me all their Sony Ericssons - which is the most saleable of these?

However, what if Orange's claimed "network incompatibility" is true and not just an excuse not to carry the phone? Is this likely, or indeed, possible? It would be just my luck if I got the phone and there turned out to be some major problem using it on Orange.

hmmm ok, good idea (to sell uprgade) unless liek me you want insurance for your phone because youre a clumbsy nitwit

Plus dont want the hassle of selling a phone especially for lots of money - it'll backfire - it always does with me...

As someone else said, you can actually get third party insurance for a similar price as Orange. However I'm not sure if the warranty/insurance package would be quite as hassle free. In my experience if you have a problem with the phone you just call Orange and they send out a replacement by courier the next day. I doubt that would be the same if you bought a sim-free phone, but I'd be interested in anyone's experiences with sim-free phones in this regard.

As far as actually selling the phone goes, I can't see there's all that much to worry about. If you're in a big city, it might be better to sell the phone in Loot or somewhere like that rather than with ebay. There are slight risks on ebay even for sellers (fraudulent PayPal chargebacks and so on). I've sold phones through Loot and the small local paper in a provincial city with absolutely no problem, for probably a few pounds more and without the rigmarole involved with ebay.
