You should of called the Police and told them you had a prowler trying to gain entry into your home
I think your GF will get over it shes prob just in shock for the time being
the Uk laws on people gaining entry into homes is pathetic so what you did was very good I think if someone breaks a entry then why can't we protect ourselves and our belongings the british government is pathetic!

...and waited 5 days for them to arrive because they''re "busy". James Whale had a way of getting around it. he told the police that he's just shot the burgler, and the police were around there in no time with helicoptor and armed police. when the one of the police officers enquired as to why he told them he had a gun, he replied "i thought you told me you were busy". the burglar was caught.
