I've recorded this from the news today, did you know your iphone on O2 has an 18 month contract which is going to cost you £899.00.

Nope, because as the saying goes "there's one born every minute"

mind you... people payed a total contract price including initial purchase of £700+ for the original 8800 on a 12 month contract which also was crazy, and given the choice today, I probably would actually go for the iPhone

Go for it £200 is a bargain!
£200 is hardly a bargain. Make it £50 on normal O2 tariffs of £35 a month and up and it would be worth it.
Using the phone as a modem is against the rules of the contract, not that there would be any point in using a 2G phone as a modem, but it is still a ridiculous price with a ridiculous tariff.
Ok, so lets compare:
I-phone on O2:
£269, plus £35 a month for 200 mins, 200 texts, unlimited data use (Phone only) = £899.
K850i on Flext 25 and web'n'walk Plus:
£39.99 plus £32.50 a month for 200 mins and 200 texts (If you split the allowance) and 3 gig data use which can be used as a modem = £625.
Ok so whats not to like? If you use your phone for internet, the K850i's HSDPA makes it much more capable at this. It may not have a great browser built in, but whats the point in having safari on a phone thats limited to 2G edge speeds only?
If you use your phone as an MP3 player? Get yourself an 8 gig M2 memory card for £50, and you can also get yourself a bluetooth speaker or headset to listen to it on thanks to A2DP. Ok so you spend a little exta for these, but they can be used in the furure on any other phones you upgrade to.
I-phone is not worth the cost. Anyone that thinks it is needs their head examined.
