Whats the average file size you get for a movie, say 1.5 hours long and what profile are you using?
Erm. Don't have any movies but my 3:20 long music video is 15mb. Not sure what profile you're referring to.
I think the higher bit rate does help with stuff like music videos where there tends to be more motion and thus less inter-frame redundancy. Stuff like movies and dramas, etc tend to have more static scenes like dialog, etc where the backgrounds stay pretty much the same, which is great for compression. Anyway, too much discussion on how video compression works.

I just got Sony Ericsson Media Manager with my W960i & paid the $9 to upgrade to the PRO version and videos with high setting look really great.

Anyone know of any converters for the mac? aside from ffmpegx? or maybe you can tell me how to do this. When I downloaded ffmpegx it came with two additional plugins that had to be installed with it, And now, ffmpegx won't read straight off a DVD. Says the DVD is protected. duhhh...!!! Like I don't know that. So for now I use a roundabout method to do it. I first decode the video off the DVD using handbrake and then pull that clip into ffmpegx.
For some reason, the mp4 format clip from Handbrake doesn't play directly on the p1. Don't know what I'm missing, I tried different resolutions and bit rates.
