i turn off my phone to save on power.
I am sorry but if you do that, then you're an idiot. On an average booting the phone and shutting it down takes about 3-4% of battery - leaving it on flight mode 1% tops if not 0% and you can test it if you dont believe me - that's a fact...
I guess the Indian guy is right - you probably COULD program it to start the alarm, but I dunno, that's useless and any normal person with an ounce of brain will just shutdown all apps and set flight mode and that's that

Wasent MOBILEphones invented so u could be reached, reach (sp) ppl anywhere and whenever? why would u Ever turn it off?!?!
For example when I'm sleeping and don't want to be disturbed except by a chosen elite that I know would only call in case of an emergency. I think this is a very good reason.

And how would this chosen elite call in an emergency if your phone is off?

@jplacson, there was a mix up on my part. Obviously you can't receive any calls if the phone is off, the next post clarified what I had intended to say. I've found a rough estimate that unless my P990 is shut off for at least 6 hours,it's more efficient to keep it on.

Ya, but UIQ has that function (though not as good as ACM) built in. Actually, most

and

phones after the T28 had the "Accepted Caller List" already I think.
My P800 had it, and it was a God-send! Hehehehe.
I didn't see the need to purchase ACM anymore. Although it does have cool features, I found the built in UIQ feature adequate.
Same goes for the one found on the P1i already... again, neither the Accepted Caller List or ACM work when the phone is off.

Isn't it amazing that an internet forum, frequented by supposedly intelligent and technically aware people, is full of questions from confused souls who can't even work out what an ON and OFF switch is supposed to do?
OFF - [awf, of] –adverb
9. out of operation or effective existence: Turn the lights off.
13. completely; utterly: to kill off all the inhabitants.

@jplacson, true but what was missing was the option to reject hidden numbers which ACM provided. Recently, my GSM provider introduced an option that allows one to accept or block hidden numbers. I still have ACM though, the extra functions such as the ability to auto send SMS does come in handy at times.

For clarification, the P1i cannot record sound? Or it just cannot record an ongoing conversation. Thanks

Xotica,
The P1i cannot record a phone conversation. That's an important feature and would benefit a lot of users. My K750 had it, and I can't imagine why SE would not incorporate that in a 'smart'phone.
Secondly, I don't get why people here want to turn off their phones. You just don't do that anymore. Maybe that was how it was done when your phone was as big as a briefcase, but not anymore. There's features included in the phone OS to avoid calls completely or accept calls only from a specified list. Figure out how to use it, and its very easy to activate. Or, simply do what some others do and put it in Flight mode, can be done in two steps!! Get with the times y'allll!!!
