Nokia is using BEST Pic (TM) like technology where you can take more than one pictures in one shot. Let me tell you the other latest example where Nokia N82 has totally copied the Memory Stick (TM) slot. Not only the position even the closing and opening door is same as Cyber-shots.

gps will probably become standard on many phones in due course (like bluetooth) but not for a few years yet imho.
But they will steadily become more popular. The power use argument is a furphy - my HP ipaq GPS only chews juice while in use, if I don't use it battery life is excellent.
When I use it the most, in the car, I have ready access to external power via the cradle so infact using the gps in the car ensures my HP is always well charged.

are you kidding me? that technology has been in use for a LONG time before Cyber-Shot phones. I remember when my brother had the old Samsung D415 and it had that function, so don't go around bullshitting that other companies take other companies' functions and who gives a flying f*^$ about having a memory card slot in the same area?
@masada
actually, GPS will probably be a regular function just like Bluetooth, but it will take some more years as more and more companies patent it. In Japan, many of the new phones have GPS functions and multiple services for them.

I agree with Driftmania, sranjam or whatever all SE did was give it a fancy name (Best Pic). Sran WTF the position of Memory card? The door? HOW DESPERATE ARE YOU DUDE!!!? Those are tiny things that a dozen other manufacturers maybe using as well!

Nokia have a wide range of S60 Symbian phones and these will eventually all get a basic GPS feature at some stage I suppose.

on the other hand make excellent non-Symbian 'feature phones' and

have already signalled thier direction with a plug in GPS accessory which will not doubt become compatible across the range much as A2DP accesories have.
I would expect to see in-built GPS only in future M/P Series phones.
I personally don't really need GPS...

A patent filed by Sony Ericsson in February 2004 and issued in July 2007, points to a GPS enabled cellphone that uses traditional GPS, A-GPS and even Wi-Fi to assess the location of the phone. The patent application recognises the fact that traditional GPS doesn’t function well indoors or under dense foliage and hence, uses Wi-Fi or Base Station signal to locate the cellphone. Considering that the patent was filed nearly four years ago, we should expect Sony Ericsson to serve a location-sensitive phone very soon!

I am Not Desperate. Remember the days when Nokia used to place Memory cards near SIM Cards and you had to remove the battery for it. Remember 7610 ? Anyway, Now SE has started filing many patents so nobody will copy some of it's best technologies weather tiny or something else.

I don't see why you're getting your thongs in a bunch, but phone companies copy designs all the time and there's only a certain number of places you could put a memory card slot. And SE wasn't the first one that used multi-shot, so they copied that and called it "Best-Pic".

Personaly i don't see the need for internal gps, you can buy a bluetooth module for cheap and it's easier to locate it on the dash of the car, so it can receive sats, than the cellphone unit itself. Also, it works with your laptop, pda and cellphone.
And for the patent for positioning indoor, well... if you're lost in a building you have serious problems, seek help
