When SE was replacing my previous P990, I had a choice of asking for a P1 but decided to stick with the P990. The flip, camera lens cover and the qwerty keyboard makes all the difference as well as a smaller screen on the P1.
I have had a chance to try out the P1 keyboard on several occasions and it's definitely not for me - you may get used to it if you dedicate yourself to the process.
Single handed use is definitely easier on the P990 with a flip plus you get the added advantage of a screen protector. As far as I know, the P1 also inherited the same processor speed and firmware bugs from the P990 so I'm pretty sure I can run anything on my P990 that runs on a P1.
I agree about the size though, if you carry the phone in your shirt pocket the P1 is more suitable.

I donīt doubt that, but you really canīt run Messaging, Contacts, Swiss Manager, Opera Mobile, Opera Mini, Fring, Shozu and whatever else you want at the same time can you ???

Well i do it almost every night, and not being able to do that was what annoyed me more on the P990. Having lots of RAM its what imediately strikes you when you start using the P1.

IMO, what you get from the P1 is well worth loosing the flip, because, like i said, the P1 is suprisingly easy to use with one hand

Thats hilarious Ares.SE Infighting.Like I said earlier,if its going to be used by a power-user (like you by the sound of it) then the P1i is the one to go for with all that extra yummy RAM.And to that person who said the P990i is unusable, thats just hilarious. You just got one of the duds off the production line.I can listen to my music and browse Opera Mini without either of them shutting down.If a message comes through im still able to check it,reply and return to what I was doing. Why I would need 12 apps running in the background is beyond me.As long as I can do 2 things simultaneosly and throw in a third on top of those two without anything closing is fine with me.Wouldnt mind buying a old P910 just to have when they stop selling them.I went Nokia when that phone was released so I missed out on that beauty.Like I said "Good Luck dude"

HOBBS, what is hilarious??? I went from a P990 to a P1, i really know what i am talking about

And yes, normally i have alot of apps open at the same time, because it increases dramaticaly the navigation speed. This is the first advantage of having more RAM. Second, you can run several heavy apps at the same time, when you need it (my example...shozu+opera mini+opera mobile+fring+contacts+messaging+whatever). This are facts.

I never said the P990 is unusable...on the contrary, i loved my P990, and it was stable with the latest firmwares.

Its all a matter of how much you can spend...i say, if anyone wants a UIQ smartphone, and has enough cash, the P1 is the correct choice. If you are on a budget, the P990 is also a great choice, right now.

Then again the P1 has what I REALLY want - good camera, Wifi and lots of onboard memory...
Thanks

P1i does NOT have a good camera, it produces pictures that have green colour all over. My P990i makes better pictures.

A dwnside of the flip is that itīs quite difficult if you want to use your phone as a nevigator.

Ah... well I managed to get a P910i boxed with all accesories for Ģ36.01 on ebay tonight... I was out picking my lad up from badminton and missed one that ended up selling for Ģ26

It's a bitter-sweet feeling though - I was looking forward to getting a play with a 990 or P1

- well maybe later... we'll see what this ones like!

Cheers guys - all the best

@cell1st, I regularly use TomTom on my P990 (with flip) without a problem. I have a generic holder and I use it in the car so the flip never caused a problem for me.

@ares, I agree that the extra RAM on the P1 has an advantage but honestly, I really don't use all those applications at the same time. I always listen to music or FM when I am either using messaging or browsing (with built in Opera or with Opera mini) over WLAN. So far that combination does not cause any problems. Only if I use RSS feeds at the same time and the web page has too many pictures than messaging may be shut down. So really, at least for me, loosing the flip, keyboard and bigger screen for extra RAM is inconvenient.
As noted, the pictures taken with P1 have the green tint problem whereas the P990 pictures are better than even the K750. You know that I criticize the P990 all the time but the P1 doesn't offer anything to me except RAM but takes away some features that were the reason I bought the P990 to begin with.
I guess the bottom line is that, again, it is a matter of personal preference.
The sad thing is that the P990 could have been so much better than it is now only if SE had wanted.

P990i for me here . . considering it's $$$$ price at the moment - very CHEAP !

About the camera . . . I guess all you need is a proper-setting mate . . . look at the shots I made here (till last page):

http://www.esato.com/board/vi[....]php?topic=127274&start=615

. . . . mind you, hey are all INDOOR-shots . . . what more if taken OUTDOORS The P990i has a GOOD-cam (Auto-Focus)

Forget about all the BUGs issues it has in the past . . . as you can STILL upgrade it with the latest firmware. I have the 2nd to the latest, and have NOT experienced any problem with it, not ONCE !

Good Luck!

How come nobody suggests the M600? I would prefer it over the P990 seeing the form factor easily outweighs the lack of camera for me.
