Well my point about the jog dial was that the decision must have been made on the basis of cost, I agree with you that it was a sad loss to the P seiries. Design wise with the P1 is of no consequence, as all they did was put a p990 with extra RAM in the shell of the M600, then made a few cosmetic upgrades. I just wish they'd chosen the P910 chasis instead, but I guess they couldn't do that as it could be percieved as a retrograde step as well as a complete admission of the p990's failure.

Oh and it was also some kind of upgrade of two devices in one - that's obvious, such lower costs, so they upgraded both P990 and M600 in one,
also renaming it and cutting previous Pseries line they opened a possibility for further Hardware changes,
But I don't believe in flip,
unless all the "leaked" photoshops are completely wrong, but it's not possible...

You are definitely right. That's why P1i is a much better choice than M600 and P990.
But

should have brought something better indeed. I really hope

will surprise us with their new P series phone.
P1i is definitely last years phone with small updates. It should have been out last year around this time.

i really wonder why did SE make this strategic move of changing the P's form factor with this "5th generation".
i should admit, P1i is a bit easier to use than the P990, i tried using both the phones.
P990 does look stylish while P1i looks more like the usual bar phone (to each his own), but i can't imagine sliding this 120g Elena into a shirt pocket had it not been a sleek bar!
cheers!

I blieve that the P1 was a despareate attempt at damage limitation after the PR disaster that was the P990, after all - if they had done nothing then they'd have lost a huge amount of buisiness from P900/10 users who were cautious about upgrading. Particularly with the success of the N95, and the huge choice of touchscreen WM devices available.
This, IMO, is why there seems to be very little in the way of inovation with this phone, being no more than a p990 that actually works, in a suit borrowed from its little brother

I do not consider the P1 as an upgrade to the P990. It's simply a different series and as such may be considered an upgrade to the M600. I doubt there will ever be a true upgrade to the P990 but like others I am willing to see what SE will offer before making my decision.

I just dont see how one can say that the p1i does not loan itself to 1 handed use. i use it 1 handed all the time unless of course one were commenting to the fact that typing is easier 2 handed but then the the same could be said about the p9XX. Ive handled the p9XX's and to be honest the flip was always what kept me away, it was just to bulky even for all its functionality, imho the p1i was a step in the right direction. Other than nostalgia for old p series users and screen size the need for flip has gone the way of the dinosaur

Fine, if you say it is suitable for one handed use, so be it. But P990 with flip requires only a thumb to navigate with the dpad. I don't see any pdaphone in the market topping that feat, do you?

Actually yes. The blackberry pearl requires a thumb to navigate thru. However it has other problems thus why i choose the p1i. I agree completely that the dpad would be an added addition to the future p series however i dont see a future for flip. Sorry. Hey maybe SE will add a little mouse ball to replace the jog wheel thus giving the functionality of the dpad with added flexibility. Whishful thinking more food for thought.

Friends, I won't be very original, yet it's my view - iI think the most important is to propose something USABLE and practical,
so maybe it won't have a flip or 5way jog,
but may have different, even better solutions,
that's what I believe.
And just look at P1 - many P990 said "no" to it but so many others are indeed happy with it!
So, I just say - nothing's pefect, and nothing will last forever.
I just somehow stick to SE/UIQ.
