I'm a fan of the keypad. As stated previously by others it makes the phone look hot as well as keeping it thin and best of all it gives you options, keypad, onscreen keypad or handwriting recognition.

The only thing i'm not realy a fan of is the scroll wheel and return key. I would sacrifice half an inch of the screen for a small navigation pad like on the k750i etc

Of course, there are always trade-offs. If you want a qwerty keyboard on a small device then it's bound to have small buttons. In my opinion, the p1i keyboard was a brilliant idea; it was very innovative for to come up with such a keyboard design. Some may find it appealing; some may not. It gives the user bigger buttons to work with but it also requires a longer learning curve. It is a new design so it will take some getting used to. Even I am not used to it but hey, maybe someday, right?

What I miss in the p1i is the 5-way jog dial that the older p-series phones used to have. The new jog dial in the newer phones are a pain to use in my opinion. Plus, they're only 3-way

i absolutely love the keypad, probably my favourite feature of the P1 (normal sized fingers).

about the underscore: i've not needed to use it since i have the phone (last november). so i'm glad they didn't put it on the keypad!

I have a fat thumbs and fingers, and I love the p1i keypad. That's one of the main reason why I bought it at the first place. Although, for some other reasons, I decided to sell it, .

Underscore (_) is easy using P1i keyboard pressing...

Just press left-hand side of the "@ . OK return" button (button above the bottom right "ALT")... press 6 times to scroll through special chars to the '_'.

Similarly, pressing left-hand side of the "+ , - Z" button (button above the bottom left "SHIFT")... multiples presses scrolls to, e.g. currency symbols.

EASY!

There are few hide symbol when you press + or comma, and @ and dot couple times on P1i.

the only real reason i am not happy with is because it was present on the p990 keypad but they, for some reason, decided to take it off. i can use both keypads of the p990 and p1 well, just like the p990 keypad a lot better and find typing is a fair bit faster.

i absolutely love the p1i keypad - although i perferred the m600 as the spacebar was bigger. never used the p990 but you have to remember that the qwerty on the p990 takes up more space.
