try it again with:
K790 R1JG001 MAIN NAM 1 EV RED52
K790 R1JG001 FS AMERICA 2 RED52
I think the generic firmware is only for K790i not for K790a

make the backup of your GDFS with XS++ in GDFS section
then open your notepad and write the folowing line...
gdfswrite:000000AC12
and save as 4band.txt
then run script with XS++ in GDSF with 4band.txt
detach your phone and test...
>*Services info
Configs...
It may show GSM850 GSM900 GSM1800 GSM1900

Hi Brankar,
Thanks for your suggestions,
If I modify the gdfs, do I risk blocking the phone forever if something goes wrong?
About the firmware, do you know what NAM means? What changes from the one I installed?
I'm going to my friend's house in a couple of hours and try it.
Thanks

if something go wrong you have backup of your GDFS and can be replaced
i just read this:
hi.i had this problem with an k790a from mexic.it was 850/1800/1900 mhz band.i'm from romania and here the 850mhz band its not used.only 900 and1800 and reception for the 1800mhz band service provider was verrry weak.after i wrote that script, signal reception for that same provider is very strong everywhere...so now i can use my phone anywhere. i recomand to all to write that script in their phones if they have only 3 bands.it increase reception in zones with poor signal.

That link is very interesting!
I'm leaving for my friend's house, I'll try it and I'll post my results when I get back.
Thanks

This is very curious indeed because I have a K790i which is quad-band (Yes it is quad-band, it's a prototype phone) and I always wondered if the K790a vs K790i wasn't just a software setting somewhere to switch the active band from 850 to 900?

DONT DO THAT!!!!
The 790a is NOT QUADBAND there are hardware differences (I know Iv tried it - and thats why you have no network - its looking for 900mhz and its not supported).
This is why you are getting "no network" when the phone was flashed with k800 FW it changed that value in the GDFS. TRUST ME iv tried this and so have many others IT IS NOT A QUAD BAND PHONE!
use the one that I posted earlier.

I thought that it has no network because the K800 firmware is fundamentally different since it's 3G (USMT) vs the K790 which is EDGE... I also know htat the K790a indeed is lacking the 900mhz frequency to begin with, but I was wondering if this is just restricted by SE since the 1st prototype phone they released (the one I have) is indeed quad-band.
