Moto may be going down in Europe and possibly Asia, but in America they're still one of the biggest phone brands around.

but iPhone and the soon to be released X1 will be slowly taking over them

soon no more motorola on us imo unless they reevaluate their products into something innovative and competitive

Yeah, your still not hearing me...
Europe, Asia, infact most places OTHER than the USA, their failing. iDrone or not, X1 or not, it's been failing for a while.
In the USA however, different story. They're far more popular over there due to the Americans apparent lack of interest in features and their expanded interest in IM and PTT.

Unfortunately it will NOT have MotoMAGX (Linux+Java by MonteVista that is i n the Z6, U6 Pebl2, Razr2 V8 or E8). Which is VERY bad decision as they have yet to release a MAGX phone supporting 3G as of yet.
Motorola will be releasing - or hoping - more devices using Linux for Low-Mid end and high end will be UIQ with some Windows Mobile. This actually looks good to me but I'd not going to be fooled by Motorola again. They have to really deliver and open up MotoMAGX for more native application installation/support.

Finally!! I've been bleeting on for yours that Moto are still one of the biggest manufacturers about, even over here they don't do too badly, Granted in Europe they are no Nokia, but look at how many design award Moto win and how many Nokia win
You all seem to forget that Moto gave us the mobile phone, it was Moto that made the "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" saying possible, was broadcast from either the moon, or a warehouse depending on your thoughts of the moon landing on a moto radio...
You will possibly find that Moto sell a lot of chips and components to other manufacturers, but as J says, until Moto lose a grip in North America they are in no bad situation at all...
