Neither of us has yet, so i guess the only other way to his phone services is going through Orange (but he has no Orange Care but i have!) or may be through Carphonewarehouse?

We suggest you send your Sony Ericsson product via recorded delivery, for your peace of mind when it is in the post. We ask that you include your address, a fault description, and a copy of your proof of purchase with the IMEI number on it.
