You should have a look at the LG phones.
They have got a nice design, their UI has improved alot, their phones are getting more and better specs.
And their phones are build on the Ericsson platform, so in a way you'll still support Ericsson.

You can't judge a phone by the platform its build on or by reading its specs on paper, it's daily use that counts.
The son of a colleague of mine has had the KF600 for half a year now, the phone has been sent in for repair twice, the first time because the phone switched off completely, when the Bleutooth was switched off. And now again, because it just switches off randomly.
Plus its very laggy when browsing pictures, but he got used to that, wouldn't buy an LG again, though.

Looks like he was one of the first to buy it.
The fact that the touchbutton screen is laggy is true, i've heard it from others aswell.
Didn't hear anyone complain about the software, only that the screen might've been bigger, and another keypap.
Its a midlevel phone, not a high end one

....i though it was a high end phone?!?!$%&
but non the less Don you made a good move... i am planning to switch if the x1 fails dosnt live to my expectation. We buyers shouldnt have to go through all this trouble on brand new phones. I can imagine how crushed se owners with-out internet cope with these firmware bugs...

everyone knows that I was a dedicated SE fan.
I got tired of the quality constantly going down.
The specs were usually poor and the screens looked to get smaller and smaller!
The s700 was amazing and turned so many heads. It LOOKED like a cameraa nd the screen was fantastic.
The V800 made 3G cool.
The P900 made me feel like I was james bond.
Now it's all rubbish.
I shifted to Samsung for a while until ending up with the N95 8GB.
*sighs*

still hanging on to

but i'm not fond of their newer phones. after recently losing my W660i, i looked around a bit to find a replacement and what got my fancy was a K800i. it may be an "old" model but at its current price, definitely worth it!

the diamond is really nice so far the screen is too small to have on full qwerty so I usually use compact qwerty. the resolution is amazing but I just don't have 3g support so that sucks

Ive finally had enough with SE, this is my 4th or 5th phone to break with in a year of me owning it, and when im paying 700 dollars for a phone (k850) i expect it to last longer. First my K800 died on me and wouldnt turn on so then i got a k550 to use just until the k850 came out, i got that and after not even 4 months the one button wouldnt work, i really had to press it down and hope that it would work. Then i finally got the K850 and now every time i press the '5' button it acts as if im pressing back and the same goes for when i press down on the d pad. Its so annoying. My wife also had a S500 which also broke, i actually recommended that same phone to a new mobile user and he complains about how poorly its made and certain buttons wont work.
My wife now just has a K770 and i have a broke K850.
Im originally from england but now live in america and its not as easy as it is in england just to take your phone into the store where i got it from and they fix it, i have to send it back to SE and to be honest its ridiculous. There are no real good phones out here for cheap and with the 3G i phone at just $300 id be crazy not to get it, but i dont want it because everyone has one. But Apple actually have really good service and their phone is really good. I dont care about a decent camera anymore on a phone i just want the internet. But i know that i am def not getting another SE again. I have used them for many many years and this is the last time i will use the, Their standards have really slipped in my opinion.
* You've finally seen the light and couldn't keep giving in any longer! I totally agree. Also you'll need to get used to sending your phones in for service here in North America, unless you're in amongst the LARGEST cities where they have a service center - which is slim. I'm in Toronto and Both Nokia & SE have service centers in Mississauga (SE I think, Motorola did have one there, blah), and Barries ON (Nokia).
If you're in NY, NY State then get a NOKIA as they have a headquarters there & in Chicago IL (both will take your phone in for service; send it out if they cannot fix it in house to Nokia Corp).

thanks guys for your replies, im just so disappointed with them, i have used them before they were even a joint venture, i had an ericsson and a sony phone, and finally had enough.
Im looking at the HTC Touch Diamond and the Samsung Omnia, i saw the N85 but when is that out? i need a phone within the next 2 weeks, this K850 is driving me crazy. I was also thinking of the N96
Touch Diamond = No 3G so EDGE only. Wait until AT&T gets it so it'll be available with 3G but its coming.
Samsung Omnia ... wait until the 3G version begins to ship ... currently it just passed FCC approval so you'll see that within 2mths.
NOkia N85 ... 2mths I say and it'll be shipping & available shortly after.
* What you REALLY need to way is Internet Browsing, RSS Feeds, Email, Widgets(?), and finally Blogging (if you do this at all) & Web2.0. These are the BIGGEST things to consider if you're going for a phone for internet usage!!!!!
In my eyes, S60 is best suited for ALL of them; while getting a WM device right now seems like a stop gate. You'll be installing so many third party apps to replace core system functionality (well same with S60 too; but less so out of necessity; Browser being the most IMPORTANT). Next March I think is when WM7 debuts and THEN we'll have something to really enjoy. Yes I'm not a WM fan at all but WM7 promises a lot of major improvements but will Microsoft truly deliver on this promise?!
Good luck in your search
