> Iphone 3G and 3GS on orange official!

I think there are a lot of people out there who'd agree the iPhone is a very special phone. Yes it's just an "ipod touch with phone functions slapped on" but only in the same sense that everything else on the market is "just a phone" without the ipod touch bit. And an ipod touch with phone functions, and all the apps at its disposal, is actually a pretty powerful, pocketable, mobile computer - far more than the sum of its parts.
All that said, yes O2 are charging too much of a premium for the 3GS. Unlike in the US where Apple cut the price of the 3G and slotted the 3GS into the previous model's pricepoint, O2 simply maintained the 3G at the same old price it always was and added a premium to the 3GS. I can't help thinking this was probably because (a) they could, as they had the monopoly on it at the time, and (b) they knew that monopoly was coming to an end soon so wanted to milk it for all it's worth.
I hope the competition normalises things a bit so the S version is a little closer to the original pricing of the 3G when it was launched - it wouldn't surprise me if the older 3G didn't disappear altogether soon anyway.

The iPhone from how I understand it, is a iPod with a phone, rather than a phone with an iPod...

November 10th is the date for iPhone 3G and 3GS availability on Orange according to
The Guardian
I'll still be waiting for the Vodafone offering as my contract ends in January

I see it as a powerful phone, with iPod software and powerful QuickTime for video playback and the ability to have some seriously powerful applications. Think of it as a feature phone on quality 'roids!
you guys that try it on Orange will go nuts with games like Real Racing GTi!

i doubt orange will brand the iphone, but that will put non-iphone orange users thinking that "only when u get an iphone you get no branding"

does anyone think that orange will introduce the iphone on pay and go at a cheaper price than o2? also do you think the iphone on orange will be locked or unlocked? i am going to hold out in buying it on pay and go until orange brings it out and see what happens with price.

11th November not 10th

2 years after the original iPhone went on sale well the day after.

iPhone first went on sale on November 9th 2007,
here's the press release, which presumably is why Orange will start selling them on the 10th

This probably explains why o2 are currently fleecing its customers with the SATIO which is officially released by o2 on the 10th
I hear the new retentions system goes live on o2 this weekend, maybe they will try a bit harder to keep custom once they have competition from Orange etc.
