Got mine done today free from R's electrics. You need to be a little more cunning, software upgrades are free under warranty if they are likely to fix a problem. Guess what, my phone (and i'm sure all of yours too) has crashed a couple times in the last 2 months. I call that a problem, and thus get my upgrade done under warranty, screw that £15 + VAT.

Got my p800 (on Orange network) R2D firmware update today at carphone warehouse in Poole, Dorset and all went well. And did not cost a thing even though i had bought phone from elsewhere.
