its not always about what a phone can do some people just like a phone that makes calls and send sms.they just want this without the frills of anything else.
to most people bluetooth mms and tri band is just unneeded.
however i think that se has fallen behind the current market place and the fact that they are out of the top5 is there own fault.
they use to lead with inovations on phones but now they seem to take an age for a phone to come out.
this puts people off when they goto buy a phone they want something that day or at worst that month.
se never seems to know when things are coming out (granted some of this is a network issue) the other makers put a date on release and 9/10 stick to it.with se its 1/10.
the p800 is a great example and you only have to read esato to see about the t610 lots of dates banded around no real answers from se.
most people esp in the uk have already bought there first and in some cases second colour screen phone.
i would doubt many will change for the t610 no matter how good it is.
by the time they change the t610 will have been bettered by another maker ie siemens.
se need to get there act together and start getting phones first to market (like thet68) or they will end up out of the game altogether

Couldn't be more true. Most people here want their phone for either free or less than $50. They just want something they can talk on, and doesn't drop out all the time. The #2 feature people are looking for here, I would guess would be games (i.e., color screen, etc) but that is a step back. The sad thing is, people here seem to oogle over a nice color screen but they don't take advantage of it....they just want it to look cool. And these are the middle-level users (step above the just-want-a-phone people...)

Something that seems to be catching on here is the Hiptop (www.danger.com or www.hiptop.com). My roomy's had one for a while and seems to like it, even with the greyscale screen (color is soon!) Although personally I'm not a fan I think its good for the industry here because it gets Americans to see internet on a phone...and now they want it!

Each brand has its own niche and specialty.SE/E definitely is #1 in sweden just like motorola in d US.If only SE cud follow nokia/samsung strategy:flood d market with similar models and on time release date,perhaps SE cud recover its lost ground.Even if SE losses more,im sure Sony wud not give up yet.The marriage is still young.Give it max 3 more years. You know what, has only themselves to blame. It's not like there's no demand for phones... THEY CAN'T MEET THEIR OWN DEMAND!!!! How many times have people asked me "How much is this phone that I saw in the papers?" And what do I say? "It's not available yet.", then they go "Oh, ok...I think I'll get a Nokia instead"

Ericsson, and SE have missed out soooooo many sales opportunities due to LACK OF SUPPLY..not lack of demand. What the hell is wrong with them?!?!?!

This is probably the ONLY company I know of that is losing sales due to lack of COMPANY INTEREST to meet demand. DUH!

You are SO right. I've even managed to convince people to buy SE, but when it comes to purchasing the phones are just no there. Nokia has far better offerings in the mid and high end range (though the P800 rules the PDA/Phone sector).

This is exactly what my second post was about. Do you people remember when the T68 came out? It absolutely blew everything out of the water. No other manufacturer had an answer to it for 1.5 years. The T610 should have come out 9 months ago. I dont know what SE have been doing all this time. I mean they had a huge lead over the other manufacturers.
Truth is that i'm not even sure whether the T610 will be the best phone for more than 3 months. There are so many technologies that should have been included in it, but werent, take extended range (100m) Bluetooth as an example.
With SE's past experience in camera for phone technology, they could have made the camera 640x480 or even up the ante by making it 800x600. But NO.
All they have done is make a "me-too" phone with bluetooth, camera and a nice color screen.

Samsung Electronics outpaced Motorola in mobile handset sales in the first quarter. With this, Korea's largest mobile handset maker leapt into second place in the world behind No. 1 Nokia.

Samsung Electronics posted $2.53 billion worth of revenue in the first quarter of the year, compared to Motorola's $2.4 billion.

However, Samsung still maintains the third position in unit sales worldwide, selling 13.2 million phones, or a 13 percent share of the world market. Nokia takes up 37 percent (38 million units) and Motorola 16 percent (16.7 million units).

"We snatched Motorola's world ranking thanks for our handset lineup focused on premium quality, which guarantees high unit price and profitability. Also helpful was the fact that Motorola's strategy to advance into the Chinese market with low and medium priced items turned out to be a failure," an official at Samsung Electronics explained.

I do hope Sony Ericsson would really wake up to this reality and their follies!!!!
If they could just capture China's mobile market and perhaps their ranking would go up.(On another thought, which brand is number one in that high density market?)
Sony Ericsson should not just rely on their european market.Target China,India,and the US.
My goodness......Sony Ericsson(once #3 couple of years back is now demoted to OTHERS as a ranking.)

a cell provider here in the is US named Nextel only uses Motorola phones. They dont use GSM or CDMA but a technology called iDEN it also allows for 2 way radio.
