I was told by the cops, as I was getting crank calls at that time about 2/3 yrs ago, that Cellnet (O2) customers had an option of pressing * when 'Withheld Number' came up and the number calling was sent and logged with Cellnet (O2). this had to be set up and Im not sure whether O2 do this for their customers?
I was on 121 PAYG (T-Mobile) at the time and all they suggested was to change my SIM. As I was on PAYG, I didnt expect them to make any effort to help me other than suggest to spend another £15 on a new SIM.
It happened again, this time I was on contract with T-Mobile, late 2002, and I just told them i was gettin cranks, and they changed my number within 10mins! Obviously, I think u can only do this once, then u gotta pay.
I dont know what Vodafone and Orange do but Id say most companies dont wanna take the time and effort to find out who the person is, its more cost effective for them to give u a number change, which is prob for free, providing u go and report it to the cops and give ur provider the crime reference number.
Best thing is, to NOT give ur number out to every Tom , Dick and Harry, or just carry 2 phones, maybe 1 contract and the other PAYG. Thats the way I like it now, u can control who u wanna spk 2 too!
