He said it was the Cribbs Causway outlet in Bristol. This is where I'll be going to get mine upgraded in a few days so I'll be sure to give them explicit instructions when I drop my phone off.

don't worry Mark. It is just a phone.
I know it is not fair what they have done to you, but make some calls, take out your girlfriend, your wife , i don' know, drink a few pints and tomorrow the situation will be more calm.

Hi all,

I thought I should probably update this thread with what has happened....

Well I complained and complained and eventually CarPhoneWarehouse backed down and said they could indeed load onto the phone a firmware version which would take my phone back to the SE version without the Vodafone crap (even though they initially said this wasn't possible).

So now my phone is back the way it was when I bought it (but now with the R1L firmware).

Please be very careful if you go into CPWH asking for a firmware upgrade. Be VERY SURE they don't do the same thing to your phone as they did with mine.

Also, I would highly recommend you don't use the CPWH at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol - as they really didn't care what they had done to my phone - and offered absolutely no apology for the mistake they had made. I shall never be using that store again !

Regards,

Mark

P.S. I would like to thank 'PJJPOST' on the 'What Mobile' forum who helped me get this problem resolved.

So they can put the SE firmware back in, do you think all the service centers can do this? they told me at JAH (Southend) that it cant be done, do you think if i go down there and bug the s**t out of them they will do it?

THANKS

Hmm.. well I had kinda the same problem a while back. It seems EMMA cannot downgrade to previous firmware. Which is kinda strange.. personally I think there should be an option like this! I had a T68i with R2B software and a CK3000 carkit. The bluetooth worked perfectly with the kit, until I upgraded the firmware to R2F. All hell broke loose. All of a sudden the bluetooth compatibility was non-existent. Took me two weeks to explain to the service centre that I needed R2B back, so eventually they gave me a new phone Doesn't happen often though. I think SE should provide a downgrading option on the EMMA software. Would solve a lot of problems (even with the T610 which I am getting in 3 weeks )

Nokevin,

As far as I'm aware - they can all do it.

Remember - they told me it couldn't be done. But after much complaining (and spending nearly 2 hours in the shop shouting at them) they decided they could put the generic version of the software on the phone.

I don't think they can downgrade a firmware. But they can replace one level of firmware with another one at the same level (i.e. they replaced my R1L vodafone firmware with the R1L generic firmware).

I'm living proof that this can be done ! Don't let them tell you otherwise.

Good luck,

Mark

I'm glad you didn't give up! Maybe they will think about you next time
they are trying to screw a customer over and change their minds.

I've mentioned this so many times on the forum about CPW NOT being an authorised SE service centre for the purpose of upgrades. To give you an idea I went to my local SE service centre and BEFORE GETTING THE UPGRADE I WAS GIVEN THE OPTION TO TAKE OUT MY SIM CARD so I did. Being on o2 it doesnt really matter as I don't get all the b@ll@cks given with Vodafone T610's however Im greatful to the guy for giving me the option and you should have been told too. This just indicates why the helpful ppl at SE told me to stay away from them for this purpose.

I have a friend who works for CPW and I'm still waiting for a handset back from repair... ITS BEEN THREE MONTHS. Luckily not my handset, a relatives one.
