mariolouis is right...that "new" phone is not new here in the Philippines...
yes - it was launched in the Philippines in March (
announced in February), also has a limited launch in the Middle East in June, but over here in Europe and America it's only just available - so it's new here

Smart (the provider of philippine SPVs) has an updated software/version in their site.
that's an important point you highlight - that update is
only for the SMART Amazing Phone model,
installing it on any other Tanager handset can really mess it up causing SIM/Network locks and applying that operator's customisations, it's really important to only update the phone with ROM provided by the handset supplier

updating the software is seemless. you can do it right in the comfort of your home. and loads of software/freeware to download. customization is endless. everything is based on xml.
@dBAGZiq
no, it's not just software. actually, more revisions were made in the hardware like better screen, joystick instead of joypad, more responsive keys, independent softkeys..
@dubwireless
have you explored action backup and action update? it's something like syncML, you can backup your data wirelessly to the Action server.

@fijbert
oops (i'll never qualify as a professional diplomat), north america?

that PPCW.net site ships it worldwide now - it's the only way I got it - it's not out with an operator in Ireland either - so no subsidy
one of your fellow canadians has a great site dedicated to the MS Smartphone platform just launched this month:
www.smartphonethoughts.com
@mariolouis
thanks for the info on action backup/update - i'll take a look

The Smartphone 2002 OS comes with US English, German, French and Spanish as the default available languages. There was a 'patch/update' that provided
Arabic support to those who bought the handset in Dubai (
note: do not install this unless you have the i-Mate Arabic version of the phone)
I'd get on to your operator in Norway and ask them if they will be providing an update/patch to provide support in your language.
