Quote:£50 buybacks on new connections for ANY old, digital phone?
Available at places like Carphone Warehouse - besides you can get £50 off Orange's direct prices easily if you look around.

Quote:£75 for introducing a new customer?
Yes, I saw this one the other day... interesting, although I expect again, this has to be through Orange direct where the new customer will pay over the odds for their handset.

Quote:500 texts and 200 cross-network minutes for 30 pound a month, available online?
Hmmm, where did they get that idea? O2 online tarrifs perhaps?!

Quote:Free TimeOut travel card memory cards for SPV customers, travel adapters, Text Saver packs?
Very useful if you own an SPV I imagine.

Quote:1000 free texts a year for new customers?
And after that year...? What if you're an existing customer?

Quote:50% extra minutes Orange-to-Orange and landlines?
That one made me laugh! They've simplified tarrifs by raising the price and including cross network minutes accross the board. Then someone's obviously pointed out that people that didn't call x-net were losing out, so they've reversed the decision and made it look like a money saving offer!

Quote:24 hour free customer service?
Good, Excellent in fact, but not unique

Quote:Unlimited WAP access for £4 a month?
Yes, Unlimited GPRS WAP access (limited to 10MB/Month!!). Useful for WAP, not for much else. T-Mobile do some nice offers on unrestricted GPRS Access.

Quote:I think that these are great offers for customers, but it's all up to personal preference, I guess.
The problem with these offers is that they're all monetary offers. None of them are that good either.
What I used to love about Orange was the range of additional services they used to offer. This is what really held me in as a customer. Monetary offers can be matched or beaten easily. For instance, what tarrif would you compare 3's Videotalk 750 or 500 to on Orange? £25/month for 500 cross network minutes + 50 texts, free 24 hour customer care, free insurance and a free phone with free connection. That's pretty good, and I can't see anything on Orange that touches it.

Hmmm
I used to be proud to own a phone on Orange network and I still am (all but a little less) but I am starting to see things about the company that I dont like. I believed Orange to be the innovators in the UK mobile industry not caring about the whether the new features/services were right for the general population at that point but cared about pushing the boundarys believing people would follow eventually. Many of them mentioned above. I have just signed up for another year with Orange having been with them for 7 years in order to get a new phone (T610 having ditched Nokia a year ago because of frustrations of their phones constantly crashing). But all these new options to get more money from the customer (are very visable, like the equation appears to be to get push users to use as much bandwidth as possble in order to charge more money) is starting me to wonder if I should switch to another network next year.

When getting this new phone I had a 5 minute arguement with the sales guy about Orange care being charged per month when it was usually free for 12 months. This pissed me off considering that mobile phones appear to be not very reliable with their performance and often need to be replaced inside 1 year why should I bear the cost of a faulty phone.

I agree with the previous poster, the departure of Hans Snook has been very visable. The innovation and boundary pushing has appeared to dissappear or slow right up allowing the other 3 networks to catch up.

PS I like Oranges redesign of the phone manuals, especially as SE's are not that intuitive.

Like to the above poster I have been with the Big "O" for 7 years and I suppose one day the other networks would start to offer the same services (however seeing the services on other networks makes me laugh cause the are poor rip-offs). Vodafone have been trying to copy Orange for years and just cant do it in the same style. They have even copied Your Plan (i aint a fan of this) called Perfect Fit. Anyway its worth reading the interview with Stuart Henry (Orange Sales Director) @ http://www.mobilenewscwp.co.uk. Orange will react when they need to.

Orange are clearly watching the market at the moment becuase of 3. They publicly slammed 3 last week (www.theregister.co.uk) for degrading 3G services. As a keen observer of this industry I strongly believe 3 will go bust in the next year. So many people dont realise that the inclusive minutes are not used when not in 3G coverage and I know 2 people who have been burnt already, mind due they never got their bills for 6 weeks and were cut off. With the losses made by 3 in Australia recently, I cant see Hutchinson getting a return on their dollar. KPN are being sued cause they refused to fund 3 any further. 3 are wrecking the market and they will not be able to sustain it. Its suicide. The strongest always survive. Remember like One2One / T-Mobile, cheap is tearful.

Peace

well its only this year ive changed to orange from voda and all i can say is that even with the £15 excess this is still cheaper than voda's £6/month £25 excess and seeing as my bills have halved since being with orange im personally not too bothered about paying £15 if i lose my phone etc (which incedently i have only ever doen once is 8 years of owning a mobile). people do take the piss with insurance policies and this is probably why they have started charging people to cover any losses.

@bernifreshmann

I agree, I think 3 will go bust. I've seen them recently giving the NEC E808 away on 3 To Go. This phone must cost them at least £400 - it's easy to find it going for £40. (3 To Go is their PAYG tarrif)

The new care has been charged like this for about a month now. The faulty handset will be charged £15 if found to be damaged or not faulty. U will pay.:-*

Does this mean if the phone is faulty then you won't have to pay?

That's fair enough then, as long as you don't get charged for real faults. That would suck.

Wow, I'm glad we have finally got this out in the open.

Long time Orange users know what how good it USED to be, so for a moment lets forget that. Let's get down to the basics and ask this;

Do you think that Orange are still better than the other networks out there? For price, features and service. (I say again, FORGET HOW IT USED TO BE I am talking about now, this precise moment in time)

In regards to Orange equity being bumped, that backs up my claims of the margin vs. volume model. Equity was great! I never bought flowers for my girlfriend on valentines day, the Orange roses went down a treat every time. At the time I think I was on talk 60 and I could, pretty much, bump that up to 120 minutes every month by cashing in my equity points.

This was an exclusive Orange service that no one knew about so Orange never reaped the benefits they should have, in terms of the numbers of customers. If they had pushed it more it would have attracted new users and been a great success, and it goes with out saying I would still be using it now.

I'm going to ask this one more time; do you think that Orange's recent burst of price bumps have brought the cost of using them up to, above or still below the rest of the market?

I'll say again...

Orange, Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2 have all increased prices over the last couple of years. Just because they're all roughly equal now doesn't mean I should be happy about it.

3 and Virgin are significantly better value.

I'm on Orange because:

a) I'm tied in to a contract
b) I have old tarrifs!
