Its the same story with all new technology introduced, people are wary at first (at least in Europe anyway), and I here in the UK people like to have a good moan about it too!
Our culture doesn't embrace change well, but give it time and these things slip into the mainstream.

@Scots_boyuk
I know what you're saying - I think I am an early adopter and I am tolerant of leading edge products. But remember the UK is where the Psion was born and was bought in large numbers. So not sure if you can say we don't embrace change.
But - releasing services and equipment before they are ready reminds of the way Microsoft operates. It is not fair to customers (general public) who pay good money and then to have to deal with a partial service or equipment which does not relly meet their expectations. Could 3 be another case of too much marketing hype and insufficient delivery?

The main problem with 3 is the fact that they control all the content available to the handset. This is understandable seeing as they charge for it and that is how they make their money. On the one hand some of the content is pretty impressive, but it means no more free ringtones or pics, no more choice of news/ sports channels, no more quirky tagtag sites. Contrary to what you might think there is no 'wap' browser available with the 3 network. It only allows you to access what is essentially a 3 intranet with only 3 content provided by 3s partners. For example you couldnt type in esato.com and come up with this site. This idea is taken further with the inability to transfer stuff between phones.
It is claimed that a couple of the 3 handsets have bluetooth- the only use for this is to synch with your pc though. Email also has to be through 3s own service. My last gripe is regarding the lack of streaming. In order to download a video you have to download the whole thing (and pay for it)before you can watch it, whereas on the 2.5g SPV it can stream the video clips.
I think that the technology is really impressive and admitidly the first time you make a video call it has a big 'wow factor', but it soon wears off and untill they sort out the handsets and the content ill keep my money and my T610

Commercialisation is inevitable in our society. I remember a time when the Internet wasn't totally clogged up with spam and pop-ups (yes that's right for all of you net newbies)! Now its advertising everywhere.
Money is what makes a technology, if something is in demand, people find a way of making it feasible and profitable. We just need to wait until 3G becomes better, because there will be a demand for it, maybe not right away, but eventually there will be. Until then, we can all amuse ourselves by having a jolly good moan about it!
