Cheers dude, can now keep my charger in my case for travelling.

Nice one

One other thing, if you solder direct to the plug instead of the point on the board then you don't need to cut the cradle. I'd post a piccy but have nowhere to upload it to and its pretty crap coz I took it on the P800. If anyone wants it e-mailing PM me.

Cheers,

Jo

@malcs

It works now! However, I had to connect the red usb wire to the left power plug wire instead. So far, all short term results have been positive. Also, the cradle looks a lot neater with a single wire coming only from the PC. Thx!

What I've tested so far:

CHARGING

1) speed is similar to my original charger
2) trickle charge seems to activate fine when fully charged

SYNC FUNCTIONS

1) flawless full backup and restore
2) flawless apps installations
3) half a dozen mp3 transfers

just to say this works fine still seems to be no long term effects the battery of the phone is fine and anyway there should be no reason why it is different to the charger's current and voltage

Can someone confirm that overcharging is handled by the battery and not the charger.
I like otee's mod - it allows for a switch so that you can ensure that the battery is run low before allowing the cradle to charge.

The charging circuit for the battery is in the P800 itself, the base station does nothing more than supply voltage to the connection point for the phone to use.

BTW: Lithium batteries don't need to be "cycled" to maintain the best battery performance, you can recharge them at any time. They don't have a memory like old NiCads or NiMHs.
