Vermania..so wot if ppl wanna encode@196kbps? That hardly makes them 'loosers' shame u couldnt manage 2 spell it properly...it only has 1 o..do not be so up ur A$$ to pass stupid meaningless judgements on others. Some dumb ppl on Esato seem 2 have a habit of needlessly calling other 'losers' as I have seen already once this wk...Anywayz just wanted 2 comment about the guy saying he uses 48k for all his music. 48k is a small difference with 44k but the file size is bigger and most ppl cant tell the difference in quality. I had thgt CD tracks were recorded and burned as 44100 16 bit Stereo so by my basic knowledge of encoding music, if u encode 44100>48000 u dnt gain anything as u cannot upgrade frequencies u can only equal or downgrade them as the source file is only 44100 in the 1st place. Just like u dont gain anything by doing 192k>320k on an mp3 file. Unless I guess they are resampled but I dont really know too much about how this process works. Are these correct assumptions? indyanboy i think you are not correct in this one,yes maybe the original is 44hz but the copy is never as good as the original so if you decode it in 48 you get more exact copy of the 44hz than the 44hz copy.thats why even if the cds are in 44hz i always make them with 48hz.And i know that most people dont say the difference but if anyone want to be more presice its better to do this,thats my opinion of course.

@Indianbwoy
Thanks!

@Vermania
I'm a loser? Thanks - not. My 128MB MSD just arrived this morning, and my card reader should appear tomorrow. All I've been doing is experimenting with sampling rates. I tried 64kbps encoding of several tracks and found the playback of lesser quality than I had anticipated. When people say 64kbps is fine, what they're saying I suspect, is that it's fine when you consider the size/number of tracks you can fit on a stick. Me, I'm happy to have fewer tracks on the stick, provided their quality is good. I don't find 64kbps acceptable - 192kbps was perfect (!), and so 128kbps was a kind of middle ground.

I also use the OGG files on my PC through a soundsystem at home, so again, I do want a decent quality.

@Arfi
I think that 48kHz endocing of 44kHz source fiules will only up the noise levels....
