agreed. this is not a warranty issue it is a safety issue and so where the charger was purchased is not relevant.
They obviously don't want their chargers exploding and injuring people.

Do you think sonyericsson would care if i didn't send my CST-13 charger back as 2 chargers are mighty useful!

Erm... I think they might. Because, when it does overheat or short and you get injured as a result... you might sue. So yes I expect they do care. I heard some1 mention that they send you a return envelop with a unique 'case' number on it, so I assume they will be able to track you donw if you do not return your faulty charger.

Is it really worth it? I mean this could easily be classified as fraud. And they may have a bar code system or any other means of identifying where mail is located at any time.

Yes zycho, get rid of it. On the offchance that it could at some point become faulty. It's not so much a matter of fraud but that by obtaining the replacement charger you are rightly assumed to be aware of the problem. Thus you will have no legal recourse if you injure yourself/ damage your phone with it. Furthermore if someone ELSE should injure themself with it you could be deemed liable (never mind potentially hurting someone you care about).
By keeping track of who has returned chargers SE are covering their backs. I know ur probably kidding, but there are people out there who will read that and think it's a good idea...
Chargers are not expensive, oh and

phones all seem to use the same one, you'll probably collect a few as you go thru the years
Judge, alas in the UK we have to pay a premium for our barcode tracking mail services

It's in the post on the way as we speak, figured it was the best thing to do. Shame tho that the replacement is so BIG! I liked the smallness and lightness of the one in the box
