Depends whether the operator has EIR to identify the phone.

and there is no way of knowing.
besides..... contacting Orange UK would be the better move. You alert them to fraud.... they may even help you out a bit (i hope)

I would be careful what ever you do.
go to the cops you could be in trouble!
Go to the telephone company you could also be in trouble!
I would ring up and ask questions before saying anything!
I would also contact the seller and ask him!
Do you have a recipt??

You should definitely go to Orange. If you explain that you bought the phone in good faith and had no idea that anything untoward was going on, they should be all right about it. I think they would be more interested in possible insurance fraud on the part of the chap who sold you the phone!
The only other realistic option you have is to do nothing. Sometimes it is better to cut your losses and move on. How much did you pay for it?
Whatever you decide, I would strongly advise you not to dig yourself a bigger hole by doing something illegal, it would only make things worse for you if you were caught. Better to contact Orange or do nothing.

Well, i have to say, if it happened to me, i would visit the seller, tell him he made a mistake & "correct him".
If you cant find the person who sold you it, or dont want to confront him, ttell orange you have been using this bought phone for some months & ask why they blocked it, tell them you are innocent.
Maybe you are, maybe your not, they will know better than us because your IMEI is logged over your 4 month of use with Orange, proving youve had it that long.
