@JonStatt..

That will not work Jon.. Believe me its already been tried SEVERAL times by some elite mobile tweakers.. The reason why is because the online updater checks for the CDA.. However, the CDA is run through the ROM.. Even though the CDA is physically a resident .txt file it still is executed through the ROM.. However, there is no access to the system ROM during any upgrade.. Again, switching the phone during that process will not work... The updater continues to look for that CDA throughout the process.. The procedure times out when the phone is switched.. So what you are suggesting is not possible only because the process would not allow it...

@Nightshot

I figured I wouldn't hear anything else from you on this thread.. Quick to call someone a liar and quick to make a fool of yourself.

One thing most are neglecting to keep in mind.. During a firmware flash the phone gets wiped of all software customization and sorts. Thus that means if this firmware was possible for Orange or any other contract phones all carrier software modifications would be totally wiped out.. One would have to have personally have flashed a mobile to understand where I'm coming from.. With that said, if any contract holders can successfully flash their Orange P900 with this online updater they will no longer have Orange software on the unit.. However, it'll be a cold day in hell before Orange or any other contract service carrier would allow the manufacturer to openly allow the end user to wipe clean the software that it paid so much money to be customized on its phones.. So there are legal and economical issues involved here.. I don't believe this update will ever be possible for contract phones as the phone flashing procedures does require the phone to be completely wiped before revisions have to be made.. Contract carriers will have to pay big bucks to have SE customize the online firmware flashes just for their phones.. Liability and contract restrictions will continue to force the contract holder to come back to its contract service point for repairs.. Anything outside of that is subject to jeapordizing one's warranty...

You can upgrade but only to certain revisions, the reason is that orange haven't yet approved the new firmware so SE says you have the latest (that is supported by orange) as soon as orange give it the ok you r phone will update to whichever is the most recent version they have approved.

Drewmark, I will definitely try this tomorrow. Did you backup your phone before the upgrade? Did you still have the orange customisations after the upgrade?

I managed to unlock my Orange P900 using a remote unlocking service. Unfortunately still could not get the latest firmware - but did get all the SE multi media rubbish that one gets when the firmware is updated.

Orange users could always have updated their phones through a repair center.. There was never a question about that.. On the other hand, the update would not technically be an Orange update as the phone would be flashed with OEM SE firmware.... The option has always been a route for contract holders of any carrier... Flashing could always be done by anyone with the hardware/software and a copy of the firmware log.

However, the point of this thread is updating online.. There is a matter of convenience that the online updater offers that repair centers don't.... Everyone is trying to move away from the traditional repair service center as some of them either charge or take a while for one to get their phones back..

@Drewmark..

As I figured, you no longer technically have an "Orange" P900... You could have gone to one of several places to do what you just did.. Its always been a route for most for years.. That's because most actually look forward to getting rid of the carrier's customized software.. However, you have forfeited Orange's software customization in the process.. Some may jeapordize their contract or at least put it at risk as well... However, I doubt its something that Orange encourages its contract holders to do..

Thus, my point about the online updating.. Orange nor any other carrier will tolerate their customized software from being wiped 'freely' by the enduser... It did cost them money to put it in your phone to begin with.. They will probably have to pay SE to customize online updaters for them.. But what are the chances of them shelling out money for that at this point???

@bigshit

can you not just curl up and die? you have an attitude of a 3 year old. you never really have anything of any importance to say and you just come over with this attitude of" I know best, nobody knows more than me, I have the best this, I have the best that" you are one sad excuse.

Anyway, for everyone else: You can bet your bottom dollar network providers will push for online updates, orange already provides this for spv users, it saves them a fortune in not having to replace handsets because of software/firmware faults.

And being as the majority of p900 users (except for bigstink) are contract based users and are tied to their service providers, do you not think SE will be helping them to sort this out? Of course they will.

Regarding a previous post from biggy before, I admit that i did not realise that after i had upgraded my firmware using the online updater, that it had kept it the same. so therefore pointless doing it. At least i can admit my mistakes!!! I dont run and hide, eh biggy?????

What an attitude! Calm down, your just making yourself look stupid. If your going to insult someone at least try and do it in an intelligent manner e.g. a few witty barbs, perhaps a pun or two.
BigFeat is actually very helpful on here and seeing as this argument has absolutely nothing to do with me and bearing in mind that I know neither yourself nor BigFeat I have decided to wade in and defend BigFeat.
Stop mouthing off, your ignorant and showing it for the entire forum to see. Instead of seeking advice and being thankful for it, you insult people and treat them with as little respect as possible. Even worse than that, you have displayed no manners whatsoever and you have done so in front of the Yanks! I mean really your giving us British a bad rep! I am thoroughly ashamed to be from the same country as you.
To all those not from the UK I implore you not to think that we are rude and uncouth. This bounder has obviously escaped from his day unit after having lost a table tennis game and then throwing a fit. The nurses no doubt took away his table tennis privileges and he has decided to abscond, sadly without his medication or a suitable adult to look after him.
Unfortunately for the rest of us we will have to put up with him until he either sees the error of his ways or social services can fire a tranquiliser dart into one of his arse cheeks and knock him unconcious long enough to restrain him. After they have wiped the drool away from his mouth they can get him in the padded wagon and take him back to count jelly beans with the other patients. Until such time I implore everyone for patience when dealing with this chap.
