Europe is between Japan (going for 4th generation now) and North America (have GSM since a few years).

3G runs on WCDMA & CDMA2000.
Japan NTT Docomo is using WCDMA while KDDI uses CDMA2000 i think.
Should be compatible if SE S0505i is used in WCDMA neworks.
