So you don't want to sell it then, swap you for a carbon fibre mountainbike frame, Lahar, made near Ruapehu. Aucklander, should be used to a bit of traffic!

What network are you on?
I'm on Orange and have Orange Care. Whenever I want a new P800 (for a firmware upgrade or because it's been knocked around a bit) I just turn off my P800 and phone them. I tell them my phone will no longer boot up, it just hangs when I switch it on. They go through their diagnostic (which is a just a few simple questions as they can't do it over the network because my phone "wont turn on") and they conclude that my handset is faulty. If they ever try to get clever just baffle them with technical stuff about the phone, they never have a clue what you are talking about. They arrange a new (actually reconditioned) handset to be sent to me the next day and the rest is up to me. I then backup my phone and place a dodgy mp4 as the startup movie ensuring that once it's turned off it can't be turned on again. The next day a nice shiny P800 arrives with a new flip, two new styli and the newest firmware
I now have three spare flips and about 10 styli.
One thing to bare in mind is that if you don't have Orange Care then take it out first without telling them about your "broken" phone. Then claim a week or so later. If you claim when you start your cover, as you used to be able to, they will charge you a £70 emergency fee.
If you aren't on Orange then I'm sorry I may have just wasted a few mins or your time but maybe you can do something similar with other networks.
Good luck.
