For you to active SMan, you will first need to have SMan running in memory. Then, configure SMan to activate when you press the hotkey. Please read the manual on how to do this.
Now, to your question on snapshot/flush.
When you want SMan to flush programs from memory, SMan will need to know what programs need to be removed. It can only know that by knowing what programs you do not want removed.
The principle behind this is when SMan wants to quit an application, if first "sees" what applications are running in memory, it then checks againts it's list of applications to keep (the snapshot) and all other programs must be removed.
How do you create the "keep" list (aka snapshot)? You first run all applications that you do not want removed from memory. Then, you can click the snapshot button and SMan will list down all applications in memory to it's "keep" list.
In short, you define what is allowed to run in memory, all other applications can be removed when you do a flush. The creating of the list can only be done by running the program in memory and asking SMan to capture them in it's list.
How this explains everything. May I suggest you RTFM and just ask me when you don't understand something. Ohhh... please read the english manual or I am unable to help you.

hmm got a problem. i made s napshot and enabled flipclose flush, but it won't work. even when i close flip then open again, things like messages, internet communicorder, etc (things NOT in the snapshot) still show up in SMAN. whats the deal?
i'm running 1.3 build 199c of sman.

nevermind, i downloaded newest from the site (1.3 build 201) and it works perfectly now. this is THE best app on my p900 bar none. i LOVE it.

There are mods for the buttons for Sman at ajack's site..they're great..just wish they came in red or some other bright color..
