I'm no expert in batteries but what @scorchio is saying makes sense to me.

Hi all,
the SE phones does not overcharge the batteries, as all of you may have noticed. If you have the proper stuff, it's pretty much easy to check that the power usage is reduced by almost 50%, once the battery is fully charged.

I have a Nokia 3650 too and the battery is charged usually from 8 to 10 hours every day, and by the same time I'm using GPRS. I have 3 friends using the same phone, but they usually charge it when it runs out of power, and use it to call or SMS only.
We bought the mobiles together, may be mine is a month older or so, but my battery still works fine, while theirs are quite unusabe.

Do you think it is a matter of chance?

I happen to think that there are two types of over charging when it comes to batteries. What you have pointed out is that it is impossible to overload a battery thanks to cut of systems on phones pda's etc however(and correct me if I'm wrong) the type of over charging being refered to by this topic is that of needlessly charging the battery up. I does damage a battery to constantly have it plugged in and the charging cut off feature only works to a certain extent. for example: say you have your phone on charge at work and the battery is full resulting in the charge feature being shut of by phone. Now lets say you take it with you to lunch and over that period your use up a couple of percent of power. When you return to work and put the phone back on the cradle it starts to charge again and it is this type of battery topping up that does the damage. I'm blue in the face warning business customers of this problem and more often than not, six months later there back into me complaining about battery life.

Well, you have a point there, that another discussion.
I don't have an answer in that area, BUT i have experience.
All my Li-Jon phones since T28, T39, T68, T610 and some other I dont remember, I have been charging them as soon as I am settings on my desk, and in my car, and when I go to sleep, and in my work.. I have moved. Basically I have been using them as you have been warning your friends or customers.. And I have never experienced any problem with them..

Maybe your right, but I don't have an answer. but its a good question and I will search for a scientific answer, not by experience only..

In my own personal experience charging my P900 whenever I wish has had no noticeable effect on the battery life and I have been using my P900 in this way for the better part of a year. One must remember that battery quality seems to vary a great deal between users; anyone who takes a look at some of the battery thread sin the P800/P900 forum would see that some people report astounding battery life whilst others have very poor battery life even though they are both treating it in a similar manner. My battery life is poorer now than when I first got my P900, but then again that might have something to do with the fact that the CPW gave me a 1000 mAh battery instead of a 1260 mAh.

You have to remember that batteries can get worse not only by charging methods, batteries don't like heat so much, neither cold..

So some people even if they have proper charging habbits... can destroy their battery if they example leave it in the sun to much...

So there is no way for you to know why a battery is loosing life.

If people charging in a bad way doesn't mean thats why the battery isn't good..

Cause I really believe tha chargers and the li-jon batteries support all kinda of charging..

I still am not sure about removing the phone for a couple of seconds and put it in after some use, over and over again could be some harm..
But as said, in my experience, it haven't effected my batteries..

An employee from SE official service (Athens) told me that Li-Bat never have to be fully discharged. In various threads, I read that it is better to completely discharge lithium battery occasionally. Can somebody confirm this?

@babis

A lot of people do recommend discharging the battery completely before charging, but I very rarely do so and as I have previously said, I haven't noticed any significant deterioration in battery performance.

AArrgghhhhh!!

Too much writing, can't be bothered.

I myself never have really seen my p900 discharge at all (only the weekends)

It sits on my desk 9-5 charging away happily then 1hr journey home and sits back on my home desk charger when I'm not using it.
No warming of the battery at all. Or harm to the phone.
If the battery does start to lose its charge I would glady hand over £12 for a new one.
