Think of it: firmware is an integral part of the phone you buy, as the phone won't work without it. Why is it that people consider normal that the hardware must be OK, but that the firmware can be a piece of crap.
Once again the car analogy: you know that almost all car engines are now electronically controlled (by a CPU that is). If a car company sells a car with a so badly written firmware that it consumes twice the normal amount of gas and you have to refuel twice a day, would you buy it on the basis that a firmware upgrade will solve the problem in six months?
Well I guess that, following your reasoning, you would because the car makes you feel so outstanding!
What I am trying to say here is that SE, like the other brands, don't put enough effort and money in the developement of the firmware and LET US DO THE JOB of beta testing. WE do the beta testing and WE PAY FOR IT simply because we want the newest and most exclusive phone before all the others.
Don't you think this is kind of crazy?

I have checked nokia and others forum, I dont see as many as K700i. Even operators having problem with it. I saw on a forum a network users cant recieve mms so they told them to check online and another operator cant release the phone because they also having problem with mms. I think they released the phone too early without alot of tests. Users mentioning here and other forums, to me they are big problems. I am just saying so many people are complaining about it so must be something is wrong with it than ordinary.

The obvious thing to do is never buy a new phone the moment its released for two reasons being the bugs will be fixed and the price drops am i the only one to think this its common sense really This message was posted from a Nokia

michka my reply was equvalent to your post.

If you want to have a discussion with arquments, then make me a list of "bugs" that you have found about k700 which stop you from buying it. When you make that list then i will be able to reply and say if i have these problems or not. Also we can then argue if those are "bugs" or user preference and will also let you know how much integral each "bug" is to me and argue about it.

I dont disagree that the k700 have some bugs in some handsets - not at all.

But I highly dissagree on the amount of problems/bugs - not because mine is working perfect, but because 8 out of 10 of the bugs people list are not bugs from S//E - but either bugs introduced by operators (like vodafone) trashing the firmware with their own - or simply difference in opinions or user errors.
Like people listing lack of external memory as bug - or other design descisions as bugs because some people would have liked something in a different way etc. Or people posting something as a bug because they didnt take the time to read the manual etc. etc.

It gives the wrong impression that everyone has phones that are almost not functional at all - which is factuated by the first poster in this thread stating he is fed up with all the bugs of this phone - and then list alot of things which might not even be bugs - and that statement is from someone who doesnt even have the phone himself. Hes allready fed up and doesnt even have the phone yet - come on - that says it all.

Well - I can say that just as he is fed up with all the bugs without even having a phone to actually prove them - Im fed up with all the stupid posts listing problems/bugs which has nothing to do with bugs - and problems that I am not able to reproduce even if I try to on my phone. He might get lucky and get a phone that shows no problems like mine - but no, now he assume that every k700 is nothing but problems which is totally wrong.

What we need are people keeping their actual bugs in the bugs thread - and then keep all their personal opinions on what should have been this and that or not - in a personal opinions thread of how they would have liked it or what they would like to see in the future.

masseur tried to make a clean bugs thread that could be used to make a bug report to S//E - and to get a good overview for people to read on what to expect from this phone - but in no time it got filled with so much nonsense that now its almost useless as bug report.

I also remembered the time up untill release of the phone - people screaming at S//E to release it NOW - I didnt see that many people say take your time and wait untill you are perfectly sure every litle thing is fixed. I also dont see that many people saying fine, now its released I will wait 2-3 firmwareupdates before I get this phone. No - they'd rather get it immediately and then bitch and moan about it.

There are some issues - agreed - but the issues that are real issues - will be fixed in a relatively short matter of time with 1 or 2 FREE firmwareupdates - so why is it so difficult for people to show a small amount of patience.

We saw it in the online update thread - S//E descided to work on making an online service for updating our phones - everyone should be thrilled and happy about this - but what happened ? - unfortunately a link to a betastage of the service was leached and everyone started hammering the site complaing that it didnt work (hell it wasnt supposed to work yet - it wasnt officially released) - some complained they couldent update via bluetooth stating they felt ripped because they had to get synchstations and so on (duh) - just a small amount of knowledge is needed to know you cannot update firmware via Bluetooth but some is never satisfied - some just have to moan all the time. I say, go out and enjoy the summer, whatch a movie or something - get a life - be happy S//E even desided to make this and wait till its officially released and works instead of all the impatient or ignorant crap.

@Paris: I don't want to have arguments with you or anyone else. I am not interested in constructing a list of "bugs" of the K700, because I am not interested by the phone.
What I am just saying is that many people on various forums report many problems, and that it is not normal that a phone comes out with such a crappy firmware, or such a bad quality assurance checking.
And, may I add, this does also apply to many electronic devices such as many PC peripherals or digital cams.
I am just making a general statement about how the electronic, PC or software companies behave nowadays, making US do THEIR job. And WE do pay an extra premium for it.

That is very true
We do see that more and more - early buyers becoming more or less unwanting betatesters - I higly agree.

But that is also a two way street - as consumers of today gets more and more demanding of early release and more and more demanding on what the devices should be able to do - and less loyal towards manufacturers. At the same time there is the constant race between manufatures to please their custumers as quickly as possible.

The trick is to find that good in between point - but that doesnt allways works out as expected.

@TheRealSpawn: I almost totally agree with your post. I certainly have made the distinction between reasonable report of true bugs and the lot of personal preferences. If you read my answer to Paris, you will understand that it is not aimed solely at the K700, but more generally to all the companies that sell devices that are a combination of hardware and software and that let the software be debugged by the users.
My rant is more general than pointing to a single phone.

Edit: we are a bit out of synchronism here
And I agree that WE are more and more demanding and speedy, so that we are also at fault here. However, I expect a good company not to fall in this speed race at the expense of quality of their product.

What I have already told you is basically to base you opinions in YOUR judjement WHEN you have the phone and see for your self that it is crap, which is not btw. If you are not interested on the K700 why are you researching on it anyway?

The fact is that many people dont know what the word bug means and dont know what to expect. I have the phone and i am using it extensively for the past month and i assure you that it is quality is more than expected. I loaded like 100 java games, played over 30 movies, uploaded 50+ ringtones via bluetooth. used a bluetooth headset with it. synchronized it with a pocket pc, added like 20+ different themes, used reminders, calendar notes, basically anything on the phone and found not problem at all. Are these the BUGS that you read about? is this the bad quality phone you are talking about?? oh come on.

mutlifunction devices have many problems, if you sit and think you will find out why. There are so many scenarios to test that is basically impossible to do it in a timely manner. And yes many electronic devices that are designed to to a certain thing can be tested VERY VERY easily unlike other computting/multi function systems out there.

i hope you can come to you sences and buy the damn phone. If it is unusable and crap as you say then you can go back to the shop, show them your unusable crappy phone and get your money back!
